Elementary EducationThese brain teasers rely on your ability to recognize groups of common attributes. For each of these puzzles you'll need to figure out why the words or letters are grouped as they are. Sometimes you will be asked to pick the odd-one-out or to place a new word into the correct group.
The following elements have been placed into four groups.
1: argon, germanium, nitrogen, titanium
2: barium, hydrogen, radium
3: iodine, rhenium, lanthanum
4: phosphorus, erbium
Each of the following four elements must be added to the above groups. Each of these elements can be used only once, and each group must have one element added to it to make it complete.
indium, neodymium, sodium, uranium
Which element is added to each group and why?
AnswerAdd the elements so that the chemical symbols of the elements in each group spell the names of countries.
1: argon (Ar) + germanium (Ge) + nitrogen (N) + titanium (Ti) + sodium (Na) = Argentina
2: barium (Ba) + hydrogen (H) + radium (Ra) + indium (In) = Bahrain
3: iodine (I) + rhenium (Re) + lanthanum (La) + neodymium (Nd) = Ireland
4: phosphorus (P) + erbium (Er) + uranium (U) = Peru
