The Snapsinski Test of Responsiveness, Intelligence, Perceptivity and Elucidation (more commonly known as Snaps' TRIPE) is used to examine a person's excogitations of insensate disquisitions, inter alia (ie. a person's thoughts about senseless babble, among other things). Question 4 of Snaps' TRIPE is shown below.

"Question 4: Sort the following list of 15 words into three groups. Clearly explain why you decided to group the words in such a way. The words are:

alter, and, ant, ark, art, even, hard, hen, jam, just, mat, pet, rich, sea, trick."

Of the many hundreds of thousands of people who have attempted to understand Snaps' TRIPE only one person, Mr. Richard Shunary, received full marks on this question. He sorted the words into the following groups.

Group 1: and, jam, just, mat, pet, rich, sea
Group 2: alter, ark, even, hard, trick
Group 3: ant, art, hen

Can you explain why he grouped the words in this way?
