My SteedRiddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.
I ride swiftly over the shadowed plain;
Woolly sheep graze in groups.
The brooding mountains hide the sun;
Their anvil-shaped tops glower on all below.
What is the name of my steed?
HintWhich kinds of mountains have anvil-shaped tops?
AnswerAirplane. (Airliner could also be accepted.)
The "plain" is a layer of altostratus clouds below the airliner. The "woolly sheep" are small cumulus clouds hovering in a higher layer. The "mountains" are thunderheads, or cumulonimbus clouds that rise high in the sky, and have dark, flat tops that look like anvils.
