There are many 3-letter words that can be changed into other words by changing a vowel. For example, JAG can be changed to JIG, JOG or JUG. However, JEG is not a word.

Can you find sets of common three-letter English words that are formed by using all 5 vowels (A,E,I,O,U)?

I found: gat, get, git, got & gut / hap, hep, hip, hop & hup / mad, med, mid, mod & mud. Not alll the words are common but they're in my scrabble dictionary. :-)

Also ban, ben, bin, bon and bun. At first I didn't think I could use it but according to Webster, a ben is an inner parlor in a 2-room cottage. =)

For 4 letter words, there's b[aeiou]ll, and my favorite makes a sentence:

List last, lest lust lost!

And if you count proper nouns, our on-line Webster's gives this 6 vowel permutation:
