The Earlier the Better
Rebus brain teasers use words or letters in interesting orientations to represent common phrases.
This is a combination Letter Equation / Rebus. Can you figure out the common saying?
480 grains of P > 5,760 grains of C
Answer
An ounce of Prevention is better (greater) than a pound of Cure.
480 grains is one ounce.

| Griphook, here used a combination of a rebus and a letter equation to "spell out" a commonly-used expression. Needless to say, HE's done it agian. Fabulous! |

| I got it. It was quite clever, but erroneous.
480 grains = 1 Apothecary ounce
437½ grains = 1 troy ounce (what we normally mean by an ounce)
And 1 pound = 7000 grains. |

| Yes, this teaser is erroneous, and the error makes it difficult to solve. The ratio of ounces to pounds is 16:1, so making it 12:1 really misleads the reader.
Nice try though. |

| I think the saying is "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure," so the ">" should be "=". Nevertheless, great teaser. |

| Yeah, it really should have been an equals sign, but I still got it fairly quickly. Any weight references to a P and a C would give it away. |

| In Troy or Apothocaries weight, 1 ounce is 480 grains and 1 pound is 5760 grains (12 ounces). In Avoirdupois, 1 ounce is 437.5 grains and 1 pound is 7000 grains (16 ounces). BTW. "ounce" is from Latin "uncia" meaning "twelfth". |
