In a game of chess, how many different choices do you have for your first move?

Answer

20. There are 16 possible pawn moves, and four possible knight moves.

Technically, you could also surrender the game on the first move by knocking over your king, making 21 possible opening moves.

You could also Offer a Draw. That makes 22.

Resigning and offering a draw are not moves. 20 is the answer.
