Soda Pop
These brain teasers rely on your ability to recognize groups of common attributes. For each of these puzzles you'll need to figure out why the words or letters are grouped as they are. Sometimes you will be asked to pick the odd-one-out or to place a new word into the correct group.
Carlin, Frederick, and Arty prefer Sprite out of all carbonated drinks.
Natalie, Jared, and Penelope prefer Mountain Dew out of all carbonated drinks.
Barb and Coopoo (a rather unusual name) prefer Crush out of all carbonated drinks.
What drink does Hoot prefer?
Answer
Hoot prefers Mountain Dew.
The names are grouped according to the first letter and the number of letters in each name.
Sprite lovers: take the first letter of their name, convert that to a number according to its place in the alphabet, and then add 3 to get the length of their name (C=3+3=6=C a r l i n).
Mountain Dew lovers: take the first letter of their name, convert that to a number according to its place in the alphabet, and then divide by two to get the length of their name (N=14/2=7=N a t a l i e)
Crush lovers: take the first letter of their name, convert that to a number according to its place in the alphabet, and then multiply by two to get the length of their name (B=2x2=4=B a r b).
For Hoot, H = 8 / 2 = 4 letters long. Therefore, he likes Mountain Dew.

| well I got a different answer using a much more simpler strategy because what you did was complicating. the beginning of carlin frederick and arty all have words in them. The end of natalie, jared, and penelope all have words at the end. And barb and coopoo don't have any individual words like hoot. but yours was still cool |
