ACRON,Inc.
These brain teasers rely on your ability to recognize groups of common attributes. For each of these puzzles you'll need to figure out why the words or letters are grouped as they are. Sometimes you will be asked to pick the odd-one-out or to place a new word into the correct group.
Lew W. Reese, Jr. was seated comfortably in one of the boardrooms of ACRON, Inc. One final test and he would then be hired as one of the company's top executives with a seven figure monthly salary and all the perks. Exactly for what top level office, he was not told by the executive search committee. Our Chairman feels strongly about your name, they told him.
After a few minutes, the charming assistant of the Chairman entered the room and gave him a piece of paper marked 44444.
He almost fell from his chair when he read it because he was clueless as to the officers of the company.
The paper read:
A.EXECUTIVE OFFICES
1. PRESIDENT: Mountains of Work. Rush Work. More Work or Bust.
2. CFO: Number Crunches. Value Operations.
3. CORPSEC: monthly meetings every 30 days.
4. VP-PLANNING: Environment and Competition Analysis
5. VP-MARKETING: Market Expansion in all Directions.
B. NAMES OF EXECUTIVES (not in order)
1. Steve A. Norfolk, Jr.
2. Milton David A. Swanson
3. Norman S. E. Waldorf
4. Wilma S. Ocier-Tellaney
Questions:
a. Who occupies which position?
b. Why are you being considered for the vacant office aside from your qualifications?
Note: Please do not disappoint us by looking at the HINT.
What should be Lew's answers?
Hintcopy furnished:
SANJ
MDAS
NSEW
WSOT
The category is group.

Answer
a.
MDAS is CFO. Multiply, Divide, Add and Subtract are the 4 basic arithmetic OPERATIONS.
SANJ is CORPSEC. Sept., Apr., Nov., and June are the 4 MONTHS with 30 days.
WSOT is VP-PLANNING. Weaknesses, Strengths, Opportunities and Threats are the 4 areas of ANALYSIS in business planning.
NSEW is VP-MARKETING. North, South, East and West are 4 DIRECTIONS.
b. LWRJ is being considered as PRESIDENT because of his initials Lincoln, Washington, Roosevelt and Jefferson are 4 PRESIDENTS whose BUSTS are in MOUNT RUSH MORE.

| This is one of those teasers that when you find out the answe you think to yourself that if I had just looked harder I probably still could not find the answer. Then when you see the answer you say well that really makes scents. So bravoe to who ever made that up. |

| A very hard and clever riddle, I admit. Yet, it is a very ridiculous riddle. I mean, I spent so much time on it without any luck that I thought I was stupid. When I peaked at the solution, it was surprising to see that it talked about the acronyms of the initials of the rest of the executives.
I mean, think about it, no one would have thought of such a solution except the creator of the riddle him/herself. In addition to that, those whose mother tongue is not English will surely encounter troubles solving this riddle.
I think a good riddle should be more general and is open to any universal logical interpretations (i.e: the 5 hats riddle, the farmer, wolf, and cabbage riddle, the 3 missionaries + 3 cannibals riddle, etc.)
Cute riddle! |
