Trick
Trick brain teasers appear difficult at first, but they have a trick that makes them really easy.Trick
Five lizards are sitting on a log. One decides to jump to the ground, two decide to jump to a nearby leaf, and two decide to stay.
How many lizards are now on the log?
How many lizards are now on the log?
Answer
Five. There's a difference between deciding and doing. I said they decided to jump, not that they actually did.Hide Answer Show Answer

i liked it. Not too hard for me. : )
Decides means it does do it, it doesn't make sense so... No offense, I didn't like that one
I love it!!!
niccccccccce
Eh, it was ok but when I decide something I acually do it.
Great teaser! I really liked this one! *Adds to favourites*
Yes, and there's a difference between saying something is so, and it actually being so, you only said there were 5 lizards, that doesn't mean there actually were. Stupid logic huh?
haha i told my teacher i decided to do my hw but she got mad...
Funny batatis
stupid....
ok look up decided in the dictionary! it says you make a choice of what will happen next. so in order for this to be accurate you would have had to say when they decided they would do the activities! and since you didnt say whether or not something kept the lizards from performing their chosen activity,,,,,you must assume that they did it as soon as possible. !!!
i decided to give this teaser a low rating. Did i actually do it????? who knows!!!! according to your logic.

If you decide to do something, you do it.
If you decide you WANT to ( or need to, are going to, etc.) do something, you might not.

Yes, they all DECIDED to jump, yet they HAD NOT JUMPED YET!! THere is still a difference between 'do' and 'decide' , yet in this teaser both can still be possible with the answer given.
Beautiful trick teaser. And it is definitely accurate. You can, at some point, have decided to do something, yet not have done it. Maybe they decided that they will move in a couple minutes. "I have decided -- 100% -- that I am going to move into a different house." Am I in the new house yet? No? Exactly, it does not have to be instantaneous.
EVEN SO: Let's say, they all HAVE decided to make these moves, right away. It takes a finite amount of time between the decision and the motion, due to the chain of synapses in the brain all the way through the spine to the motor muscles. So if all three of them made this decision at right about the same exact time, the author could be describing a point in time between the decision and the motion.

He said five lizards "ARE" sitting on a log, therefore there ARE 5. Pretty easy...
