A man wanted to get into his work building, but he had forgotten his code. However, he did remember five clues. These are what those clues were:

The fifth number plus the third number equals fourteen.

The fourth number is one more than the second number.

The first number is one less than twice the second number.

The second number plus the third number equals ten.

The sum of all five numbers is 30.

What were the five numbers and in what order?

So, like what's the best way to figure this out? Or do I just try numbers until it works, which is what I did. I'm not strong on math...

Let O = digit 1, T = dig 2, R = dig 3, F = dig 4, V = dig 5.
O must be odd since 2*T-0 = 1 (clue 3)
so, 0=1,3,5,7,9 which means T=1,2,3,4,5 (clue 3 again)
we know R+T = 10(clue 4) then R=9,8,7,6,5
we know F-T = 1 (clue 2) then F=2,3,4,5,6
we know V+R = 14 (clue 1) then V=5,6,7,8,9
all of these possible values are listed respectively, so
our possible codes are
1 1 9 2 5 = 18
3 2 8 3 6 = 21
5 3 7 4 7 = 26
7 4 6 5 8 = 30 (clue 5)
9 5 5 6 9 = 34

7 4 6 5 8 is the solution

Why is this so Difficult. First I started by placing a nine in the fifth place. This resulting in a total sum of 34. So replaced the 9 with an 8 and got the correct answer. GREAT TEASER BUT IS NOT AS HARD AS IT IS MADE OUT TO BE!!!

I don't know if you purposefully left this out, but it would be easier if you said that no 2 numbers were the same. i enjoyed solving it anyway gj.

Unnecessary information Jo. Taking the first clue, let 3rd number be x so 5th is 14-x
From 4th clue 2nd is 10-x.
This means the 4th number is 11-x.
From the 3rd clue the first number is 19-2x.
Adding them 54-4x=30.
solving gives x = 6. Work backwards.

Fun Teaser, not that hard. Just start with two digits equaling 14 and work your way back.

I missed the boat on this one... I set N1+N2...+N5=30 and then put every number in terms of N2... this looked like (2N2-1)+N2+(10-N2)+(N2+1)+[14-(10-N2)]=30. This puts N2=8 but then after substituting into the other equations I got a code of 15,8,2,9,12 which equals 46. I know this is way off but why can't I solve algebraically ?? Thanks

I used the same method except that I got N2or B=4 and it all worked out.

The problem is wronge.... Take the answer from the computer and pug them into the clues they do not match.... So all you people who think your smart...CHECK YOUR WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
