Apr 22, 2005
| lowboy: A low or short chest or table with drawers, often on short legs
I found this using Google, entering define:lowboy. This is the best dictionary ever.
So then I tried define:barlow, and sure enough: An optical element put before the eyepiece to increases the magnifying power of the eyepiece. Common barlows multiply the focal length of the primary, resulting in 2 or 3 times more power with the same eyepiece. |

| Boxboy is an old term that was used @ grocery stores. I think the gender friendly term is now bagger or sacker. |

Oct 27, 2006
| Ok, I admit... I ALSO got "flyboy" and "Barlow." Although, according to the answers, these weren't correct, they could still be used... so even though I got most of them right, but missed these two, I still think I got them ALL right!! And the reason I got Barlow, is because I also have a Barlow knife handed down to me from my grandfather. And I DO know what a "Flyboy" is!!!
And, in my opinion... again!... Imurray needs to stop being so doggone NEGATIVE!! I mean, hey, if you don't like these teasers, then stay away!! |

| My mom used to always call the tall dresser in their bedroom a highboy and the one with the mirror a lowboy, so I didn't have any trouble with that word. My dad was an accountant at a furniture manufactuing company, so I guess maybe that's why it was a common word in our house. I like these teasers. It took some real thinking to come up with so many words that equaled exactly three and then six letter. Good job, fishmed. |

| i knew highboy and lowboy, my dad's dresser and my mom's dresser just like someone else noted. I had one false start because I used wintry as a word and then had to think again, but i got it. I was going to send it to a homeschooling mother I know but I don't think she'll leave dimwit or barfly in, not for the age kids she has!
fun and nice (unlike some posters!) |

| Cool teaser.
I got stuck in WINTRY gloom, and thus couldn't find the PANTRY... and there seems to be no such thing as "PANNOW" so I decided to give up.
I also went with barlow and flyboy. Yay for astronomy and barlow lenses! |

| whats a winnow? |
fishmed
Jun 14, 2007
| Winnow means to separate, such as wheat from chaff, by use of blowing air, as wheat is heavy, while the rest is light and just blows away. |

| I printed out the 3-letter words and crossed them off as I used them. I wrote down the new words as I matched them. I had no trouble coming up with the correct new words, but because of the process I went through, I gave it a medium difficulty. All in all, a very enjoyable puzzle which included some fun words (barfly, dimwit) and maybe old fashioned words (lowboy). Thanks for submitting! |
