Brain Teasers
Oh My!
Trick
Trick brain teasers appear difficult at first, but they have a trick that makes them really easy.Trick
I was walking through a forest on a nice sunny day
When I noticed that on the road there was a sloth in my way.
I turned and ran as fast as I could
To try and get out of the perilous wood.
The sloth it gained on me, no matter how fast I would run.
I was running pretty fast, but this race would not be won.
It finally caught me, and tore me like cloth,
So now I ask, what is this cloth tearing sloth?

Answer
A Sloth is the term for a group of bears. Bears are known to be very territorial and fast, so chasing and catching me is nothing unusual.Hide Answer Show Answer

Nice riddle! Now I have a new fun fact!
As my father (the UCLA professor of biology) would say, you are correct that a sloth is a member of the same family as bears. However, sloths are so named because they do not move fast, because they do not eat mammals.
Alright scoutman and amqrcl, before you attempt to find fault with something you'd better be sure you know what you're talking about. You both look foolish, especially YOU scoutman since you tried to drop names about your daddy. Read the teaser's answer, and if that's still to hard to comprehend look up sloth. When you're wrong in saying someone is wrong you look doubly foolish. Maybe if your daddy taught English you'd have read this one better, scoutman. This is a good teaser!
I agree with Blackmale ... think before you comment, and try reading the answer! This was a great teaser, and now I have a brand new word in my vocab.
Correct a GROUP of bears is called a sloth, butn you say A bear, meaning singular, Very poor teaser
axton, u are also incorrect. it duznt say a bear it says a sloth. it never says there is only a single bear. i think this was a great teaser
haha, you all look silly trying to break this one apart.
Thanks to all of you who have explained my teaser to others. It really makes my job a lot easier.
Here is what dictionary.com came up with after typing in "sloth".
Any of various slow-moving, arboreal, edentate mammals of the family Bradypodidae of South and Central America.
*note* I shortened it

The term you are looking for is "collective noun" - that is, a noun that names a group of animals - "pride" of lions, "flock" of birds, etc. HOWEVER - while a "Sloth" may be a group of bears, as you mentioned, bears are very territorial, and therefor, unlikely to be found in a group, and especially not pursuing you as a group. In fact, unless you happen to come between a mother and her cubs, you are unlikely to run into trouble from a "sloth" of bears. Well, maybe one other circumstance - if you are unlucky (or stupid) enough to trouble a group of bears while they are feasting on the salmon run you might attract the attention of more than one of them, but that's a real rare occurrance. Try again
You are correct, that bears (aside from mother and cubs) do not live together, but I came across a website that had a list of names for groups of animals, and I saw sloth, and thought it might make a good teaser. Obviously, this word does create come controversy, but it's all in fun.
Isn't it interesting that the people who are most critical of teasers are typically those who haven't had any accepted yet? Hmmm....
Good teaser. Enjoy the educational lesson as well. Something to share with my teenage kids as well!

i got sidetracked by the use of the word "sloth" - because i knew it was a real animal, i got to the end and went "uhm, you already told us, it was a sloth"
I like the new fact i learned but it really screwed me up since it was in the trick section when it belongs in the trivia no offense.Nice teaser though.
i think this should be in another section like trivia :
I thought he was dreaming.
Should be in riddle or trivia (depending on rewording), but hey, it was good past that.
And for those of you who are still disecting this teaser, thinking it's truly about sloths:
You're an idiot. That is all.

I liked it! Now I understand the title more.
Poor man... oh well, at least his death wasn't as embarassing as it would if the thing happened with A SINGLE sloth.
