Two frogs fell into a container of liquid. The height of the container was six feet, so the frogs couldn't possibly get out. After a few minutes, one frog sank to the bottom and died. The other frog swam around in circles until eventually, the liquid became hard and the frog could jump out. What was the liquid?

Answer

The liquid was cream. The frog kept swimming in circles and the cream turned into butter and he was able to jump out.

I_am_the_Omega Nov 22, 2004	Heh. I've heard this before, but not as a brainteaser! It's a sort of a proverb, I guess. "Make the best of a bad situation," or something to that effect. Never would've thought to turn it into a teaser though! heh... Alternatively... maybe it was cement

Atropus Jan 09, 2005	I refuse to believe that 1 frog can turn an entire 6 foot container of cream into butter.... have you ever tried churning butter? It can take hours!! It was a funny answer though. I just thought the water was cold. I figured if it was winter, the first one died of thermal shock and the other one waited for the sun to go down and then climbed on the ice. (Then again, that doesn't work either because ice won't form in agitated water until it's so cold that the frog would have been unconscious any way). sigh So my final suggestion!! Flocking agent! Coagulent stuff.. Gelatine solution... yeah that would make sense.. yeah.

If it was cement he couldn't ge out he would be stuck when it hardened!!! i like the jello idea. did it say how far it was filled up??? because even if it hardened he may have not been able to jump out. And if it was full enough he could have jumped out anyways!!!

Yes, that is it.

phrebh May 20, 2005	As anyone who's made butter knows, this is impossible. The churning process separates the solids from the liquids in cream. The ratio of liquids to solids is pretty high, on the order of ten to one. Even a moderate ratio of 2 to 1 means that the frog would be standing on 3 feet of butter in 3 feet of water.

Christopher Walken and then Leonardo Dicaprio (his son, int he movie) both use the adage "two mice fell into a bucket of cream, one gave up and died but the other, that other mouse he swam and he swam until he curned that cream into butter and crawled out" or something to that effect. nice thought process, but stolen and very hard to actually do, im sure, especially cause frogs cant flail too much and wouldnt be too good at churning...

loveshellylove Jul 31, 2005	I thought it was good. And it might not have been stolen from a movie. My principle in elementary school told it alot. And he used frogs not mice. I did'nt watch the movie those guys were talking about, so I never heard the "mice" version until I read these comments. And by the way...I went to elementary school 20 yrs ago. The story was around before the movie.

(when you find the two glasses) But really, it was pretty easy, even though I'm pretty sure it is impossible, the frog would probably die of exhaustion before the cream turned into butter. I'm not sure it's considered animal cruelty since the frog "made himself do it"
