I understand the "Hares" part but I am not making a connection with "Cross" and "Angry"

Erm....If you are cross with someone you are angry. Not sure what other explanation I can give.
I liked it, it was fun, but it also definately has an element of trivia. many people don't know leverets are rabbits. the title help with that, though. (march hare? mad hatter? of am I just pulling that out of no where)

Where does the phrase Caught in the crosshairs come from and what does is it mean? I never heard this phrase before, unless it has a similar meaning to caught by the short and dangalies in which case no explanation needed.
I believe the good Mr.IX is referring to the cross-hairs of a telescopic - or sometimes just optical - gunsight. And the target would certainly be *caught by the short and danglies* (symbolically) at least 'til the trigger is pulled, then we would see how well the weapon had been calibrated.
