Brain Teasers
Alone in a Cottage
A wealthy man lives alone in a small cottage. Being partially handicapped he had everything delivered to his cottage. The mailman was delivering a letter one Thursday when he noticed that the front door was ajar. Through the opening he could see the man's body lying in a pool of dried blood. When a police officer arrived he surveyed the scene. On the porch were two bottles of warm milk, Monday's newspaper, a catalog, flyers, and unopened mail. The police officer suspects it was foul play. Who does he suspect and why?
Answer
The police officer suspects the newspaper delivery person. The absence of Tuesday's and Wednesday's newspaper indicates that the delivery person knew there was no one there to read it.Hide Answer Show Answer

a little too easy but not bad
why not the milk man ... only 2 bottles of milk... I had the idea just different
Seems like something's wrong.
Well... if you were a milkman, and you came back to a house to find that two bottles of milk had not been picked up, do you think you would keep leaving them? I mean, come on. Don't waste milk! :-)
I was thinking milkman, because if the door was ajar for 2 or 3 days, and there were two bottles of unused milk...
Why not the mailman? Why would he have left mail Monday through Wednesday, and only noticed the ajar door on Thursday?
Because he's a mailman. He only delivers letters and packages. Obviously there weren't any the other days.
Also the reason there are only two bottles of milk, is that the newspaper man killed the wealthy man on Monday after already delivering the newspaper, and after the wealthy man had already got the milk. So there was only Tuesday and Wednesday's milk.
As to my previous comment, I realized there are flyers and unopened mail, so maybe the mailman had been coming every day but didn't notice the door before. Or they might be old mail and the wealthy man doesn't check that as much.
