Famous People's Not-So-Famous Quotations
In Cryptography teasers, a phrase or expressions has been encoded in some way (frequently by replacing letters with other letters). You need to figure out the encoding method and then decode the message to find the answer.
The below cryptograms are lesser known quotes by famous people. The cipher (key) for all of them is the same.
1. BZLDJC DC KLZ IZQNZLS DLCIDQRSDKL RLG LDLZSH-LDLZ IZQNZLS IZQCIDQRSDKL.

4. I have never met a man so ignorant that I couldn't learn something from him.
--Galileo Galilei
What is so stupid about those quotes?
For those who play Piano, they would know JSB's quote there is very true to its implied meaning. All that sound and wonder of the piano is just coming from knowing where to put your hands and when, it's nothing remarkable.
The one quote from him that I would say is stupid is when he said in response to someone flattering him:
"Anyone who tries just as hard will succeed just as well."
Or something along those lines.
And Galileo's quote there is very understandable. He is saying that no one is worthless enough to not have an influence on somebody's life. Everyone you meet, eveyone you talk to can teach you something, no matter how ignorant they are. Because then they are just teaching you how to deal with ignorance.
My two cents I guess. |

| I never said anything was stupid about them. Just that they were not as well known as others |

"Famous People's Not-So-Famous Quotations"
Aren't you implying it is someone saying something incredibly stupid? Because the other 3 (2, 4?) quotes are quite dumb. |

| What!!!!!????? That didn't make any sense to me at all. |

| Sane, that's not what I'm implying at all. I simply mean that famous people said these, but not many people know about these quotes.
And to the others who didn't understand, a cryptogram is a puzzle where every letter stands for another. So if I said that A=B, everywhere you see an 'A' in the puzzle, you put a 'B' there. By deductive logic and the process of elimination, it's possible to find every quote there, or anything else.
One last word to Sane, you consider the others 'quite dumb'? They are not dumb -- just more unusual than the others. I tried to pick quotes with a good point, and a slight amout of humor. Not stupidity. |

| Meh. I thought you were saying they were dumb quotes. This is why I think they are dumb:
1. Genius is one per cent inspiration and ninety-nine per cent perspiration.
--Thomas A. Edison
He is saying Genius perspirates, doesn't this explain itself?
3. I am not a speed reader. I am a speed
understander.
--Isaac Asimov
Understanding is merely an element of reading comprehension.
5. I have but one lamp by which my feet are
guided; and that is the lamp of
experience. I know of no way of judging
the future but by the past.
--Patrick Henry
What a terrible metaphor; comparing your feet to a lamp to your experience? |

| On some other ciphers I saw, when it said K=A, it meant that a's were k's and k's were a's, so i went through that puzzle trying to think of a composer, other than bach (whose first name i thought was just johann), whose last name had 4 letters and ended with k...i just gave up lol |

| I know it's hard for you to understand, Sane... it's okay. Stick to quotes from people you know like Captain Kangaroo and Big Bird.
Genius is one per cent inspiration and ninety-nine per cent perspiration.
--Thomas A. Edison
Thomas Edison is inventor of hundreds, if not thousands, of patents. Therefore, he has insight in to what genius is. It is said he went through thousands of fibers of various materials to find one that could withstand the electricity running through a light bulb. That doesn't take intellect as much as it takes work.
5. I have but one lamp by which my feet are
guided; and that is the lamp of
experience. I know of no way of judging
the future but by the past.
--Patrick Henry
He is not comparing a lamp to feet! In Patrick Henry's day, they carried lamps with them so they did not trip on roots and rocks along the path. Henry is saying that experience has kept him from continually stumbling; taking the past and its experiences, and using it to better the future.
Great Job, CPlus! |

| Edison is saying that 99% of genius is hard work. Patrick Henry is using the metaphor of a lamp guiding him in darkness as using past experience as a guide for decisions in life because history repeats itself. I thought it was very clever. |

| Ok im sry if i sound stupid but in the first one whenever K is used it does not equal A. Nor does A = K so im completely lost now. |
