Motherly Love
Black as night I can be,
Until my Mother sits on me;
Then clear as ice I become
In the rough, thank you Mum.

Until my Mother sits on me;
Then clear as ice I become
In the rough, thank you Mum.
What am I?

Very Cool! Pretty easy, but fun.
how stupid!!
Well, a little difficult
but nevertheless good
but nevertheless good
BORING!
Poop.
"In the rough" gave it avay for me. fun riddle
Good but easy since I'm a mother and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE diamonds!
I liked it
The high funness rating belies the ignorant comments. I thought it excellent, anemone!
Clever! Two thumbs up!
Very good teaser! Clever poem!
VERY GOOD--IVE GOT THAT COAL IN MY VEINS. .. A COAL MINER FROM WAY BACK-
Very fun. Not so easy. I guessed "diamond" from the last two lines. Coal, I believe, is only equated with the first two lines. My answer is "diamond".
Cute little poem. I guessed diamonds, too.
Pretty easy,but a real GEM.
Coal does not form diamonds. Coal is sedimentary rock made from plant remains. Both diamonds and coal are composed of carbon, and you may be able to process and use coal to artificially create diamonds, but it is not a naturally occuring process.
Interesting. I assumed diamond because of the "in the rough" but found it difficult to think of mother earth "sitting" on a lump of coal. Thanks for posting.
i thought it was mother nature and water bcuz "black as night i can be" as in an ocean during a storm, and "then clear as ice i can become" referred to becoming ice. great teaser, tho.
NICE!!!
Nice easy one for a busy day. Thanks
That was pretty hard! Didn't have a clue! Hahaz. Where did you get the teaser.
I guessed Diamonds as well - but my wifes birthday is in a week, so she must be be subliminally influencing my thought process!
I thought it was moon, and the mother was the sun; it all fits
I did not care at all for it. Just because we do not care for some teasers, does not make our comments stupid as on person said. no one has to like the same thing.
Very easy, and like Babe, I did not care much for ths one.
The best answers are diamond or carbon.
Diamonds are not formed from coal. They are usually much older and formed much deeper below the Earth's surface than coal.

nicely done; easy
I said diamond because the way I read it it was referring to the end result. I think either answer would be correct though.
Very clever; I loved your teaser. Back in my day, we were taught that diamonds are developed by pressure on coal. Even before that, people were taught that the earth was flat. knowledge advances. Whether scientifically correct or not, the meaning was there and your poem was quite fun~
For those who say "diamonds are not formed from coal" the correct statement would be that MOST diamonds are not formed from coal. It is still likely that a small percentage of them are.
Very good teaser!
Well written, however though the last line gave it away, I was of the understanding that diamonds are formed from carbon, not coal?
I did not get this one. It was very clever but difficult for me.
This is just wonderful. The "in the rough" reference is the key to solving it, but it is a pleasingly abstract reference. I had diamond as the answer. Carbon also works. I'd even go with coal, not knowing the geological detail.
I love how this was written. Rave.
