Good teaser. I tried counting up, but never got that far.
This was a hard (but good) one. I just went right to the answer... I'm such a party pooper
one doesnt have all of the vowels though.. i knew thousand had to be in there so i started counting up from there
Eight Thousand works also- you didn't say you were looking for the smallest number
I stopped counting after one and went straight to he answer.
It's cool. I liked it.

five thousand is the answer...
i got eight thousand too... doesn't that work??
Nice one I got "two hundred and six". Americans don't say "and" but British and Australians do, so it works for me
Uh....eight thousand has some repeated letters, so it wouldn't work! Very nice teaser!
If you're ok with saying it poetically, then "four and eighty" fits the bill and has all the vowels, including Y.
(By 'poetically' I am referring to the song "four and twenty blackbirds ...")

I had gone for eight thousand as well, but it does indeed have repeated letters ("t" and "h" to be precise).
I was thinking way down the list, like thirteen, fourteen and then gave up. Good thing, I'd still be counting. Good teaser. Thanks for posting.
I knew right off the bat that it had to be thousand, but then I thought 1,005 has all the vowels. Then I realized the o was repeated, so I gave up.
Close , but no cigar.
Close , but no cigar.
I got it within 10 seconds and I thought it would have to be a long word (s) to contain all the letters. So I didn't try to count up from 1. I knew "thousand" had 3 of the vowels, so "five" had the other 2 I needed. FUN! THANKS!
I do much better with words than numbers. Maybe I need to write out with words all of my math problems...

I like zag24's answer.
would the lowest number, if that is what the braingle was implying, not be one
thousand fifty.
thousand fifty.
correction: one thousand five
correction of correction: thousand five
We don't say "thousand five" so it couldn't be the answer!!
It took me a minute or so, but I got to the correct answer, five thousand. It was satisfying to figure it out!!

That was a good one. Once i figured it was a number in the thousands it went quick! Very fun!
Nice1!!!
Too easy, once I remember that 1000 was the smallest with an 'a'.
cool but I think there are more interesting things on here.

I thought that would be really hard, but got to five thousand pretty quickly (had to be a bigger #, no teens, no hundred given 2 ds, then try thousands). Nice one.

It took too much time to stop and figure out so I did not even try.
Five thousand, Eight thousand or Nine thousand...all work.
I started off with "one thousand", but knew there were two 'o's. It took me about 2 minutes (because I quickly ran 1-10, 20, 30, etc. to one hundred to make sure there were no 'a's down there). But, once I was sure it had to be ____ thousand, I found it quite quickly.
@kasie, 1005 is spelt 'one thousand (and) five', depending on nationality.
eigHT THousand and NiNe thousaNd do not work because of repeated letters.
The only number components that do not contain repeated letters are 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 40, 60, 80 and 1000. Since 1000 is the only one to contain an A, it must be in the answer. Five is the only one of the others to not share any letters with thousand and, happily, contains the missing vowels. Five thousand is therefore the ONLY solution.

I can only count to ten, so I didn't get it.

My, my, Bigfoot. Are you sure about that?

In the word "try" the y is a vowel.

EIGHT THOUSAND REPEATS THE LETTER T.
YOU CANNOT USE T TWICE.
YOU CANNOT USE T TWICE.
My answer is the same as it was in 2012.
simple, yet fun
I was wondering why we even need to know that.
Great teaser! I would consider this to be a Language/Trivia teaser.
I wish I could go back and vote on this again. I thought it had multiple solutions, being in the 8,000 group, but reading the comments shows I was wrong. This is a terrific teaser!
I love love love spike's proof that 5,000 is the only solution. Terrific logic and analysis.
I agree with TFF that this is a language teaser. Although it is a nifty bit of trivia to know, it does not require any knowledge of trivia to solve it. I'd say it could be either language or logic.
