Maria
Science
Science brain teasers require understanding of the physical or biological world and the laws that govern it.Science
A science teacher, Maria, at Presley Middle School said to her class, "Class, look around the room and point to a picture of maria." The class followed her direction, but had different responses. Half of the class pointed to a picture of her on her desk. The other half, pointed to a picture of the moon. Which group was correct?
Answer
Both groups were correct. The group that pointed to the picture of the teacher pointed to "Ms. Maria". The group that pointed to the moon was also correct. Maria (the science term) are the dark, flat regions on the moon's surface.Hide Answer Show Answer

great1!!! ez though
I have to disagree with the answer.
The word 'maria' in the teachers question to the class is in lower case.
So technically, only half the class were correct.
The moon minded half.
If the word 'maria' was in upper case, then both halfs would be correct.
Good try though, keep it up.

It is more than a good try, it is correct. She *said* that to the class, she didn't write it to them. Only fanatics can speak in capital letters.
lol phrebh, and as for u timilee (or wut ever) just tell me how u could speak in caps. and if i would have done that, then the "moon" one would be incorrect as u would put it. So, if u were just tryen to make a point, good for u, but if not, just think about it.

ty every1 (sept that timille person)
For a while I was thinking you could point to any picture that belonged to Maria, as it would be a "picture of Maria('s)" ... not quite grammatically correct though.
Nice teaser though!
Nice teaser though!
How is it not "gramatically correct"?
... I meant my answer was not grammatically correct. Your teaser was great!
o, ok lol
I liked it! I totally forgot what maria was... and i was thinking... 'is that french or something?' And I'm not stupid, 'cuz i know Luna is French for moon. So.. Smart! I like it!
i must be stupid or somethin cause i seem to be the only one who doesnt know what the term 'maria' means....o well good job
ty, i wus reading my science book when i first found out about it. And i wanted to make a teaser bout it
I have (or had) no idea what a "maria" was, but could guess the answer because it was just so obvious that the kids pointing the Maria (the teacher) had to be correct, and why would you have them pointing to the moon if it was incorrect?
ya, if u just thought about it, u could easily figure it out. this was my first one tho, so i had to make it easy for u guys
i agree w/ brunnettebabe nice teaser though
nice one! I just said they were both correct because that's how teasers always are
Good one! A question, though...was this a night class?
what do you mean? "A picture of the moon"
Good job for your first teaser. Keep it up. Don't let negative remarks get you down or upset you. Just ignore them - you don't even have to comment back on them. It's your teaser and everyone liked it. By the way, I didn't know that about the moon! So you got me on this one.
Easy but cute i am adding this to my favorites.
Woohoo, this is the 118th best Science, wait....is that a good thing?

wow are you guys special or something? way to not know maria is the terrain of the moon. actually, there are two types of terrain, the cratery part which is older and called the highlands, and the younger smoother part which is maria.
Easy, cute, i liked it. i told it to my little sister.
PS- Luna is spanish for moon, french is Lune. the moon was called Luna by the Romans, and Selene and Artemis by the Greeks

I just guessed the right answer. That was really very good.
Good Job!
I should check the dictionary.
I guessed correctly! Maybe it's more of a trick teaser, but fun nonetheless!
Thing is, though, in the name the stress is on the second syllable (Ma - REE - yu) while the seas of the moon is stressed on the first syllable (MA - ria), so they couldn't have sounded the same!
