| tyre, not tire (tire = to wear out), and i have trouble with "teas" being a word, otherwise it wasn't bad |

Jun 20, 2005
| Very nice and very clever. Not sure what the "tyre" comment above is about. When I looked it up, "tyre" is the "chiefly British variant of TIRE." So, I'm taking it as a "metric" spelling issue . |
tamjp
Jun 20, 2005
| Thanks for looking up tyre. It confused me a bit too. I have never heard or seen it spelled that way. Interesting.
I do see the point about "teas" though. I almost didn't include that one in the teaser because it seemed awkward. Should tea be used for the plural (like deer or sheep)?
Oh well, I hope you had a bit of enjoyment with the teaser anyhow. |

| I can confirm TYRE is the British spelling.
Great teaser though nice one Tam |

Jul 03, 2005
| Thanks for confirming that dutchy. I like to learn new things! It is especially interesting when it reminds me that I actually speak american and not proper (or improper ) english.
I will remember that spelling/use of tyre and perhaps i can add it too a teaser someday. |

| Very good teaser. I got them all except the seat/teas one. Regarding your comment about English versus American spellings, I want to say that just because tire is spelled "tyre" in England does not mean that we Americans do not speak/spell properly. We have many words that are spelled differently, but who is to say which spelling is correct. I prefer American versions! |
sweetime
Jul 12, 2005
| sorry, didn't mean to confuse people with the "tyre" comment above. I'm Australian, and I've never seen "tire" used in the sense of meaning "wheel on a car", here it's spelt "tyre" and "tire" is used when you are weary...I used to have the same problem with the American use of the word "check" to mean (effectively) a money order, whereas in Australia it's spelt "cheque" and "check" means...well a number of different things, but not that.
sorry about the confusion!! |

Jul 14, 2005
| Thanks for all of the great comments!!
Yes emily , you were right when you mentioned that the title was a "nod" to the teaser being about anagrams.
Perhaps I will add an "in-teaser "anagram explaination if I do this in the future to help the newbies and those "on vacation"
By the way , good point about the fact that our Americanisms are different does not make them inferior
Glad you all enjoyed this!
Well, I am off to eat just a part of a teir of some cake that is decorated with a rose and sip my one sip a cup of tea that I brew from one of the many teas in my cabinet. |

| Another fun one tamip! I struggled with the Mad Hatter for a while... Had "seat" and "teas" right away, but also thought it felt a little awkward. Grammatically correct, and perfectly acceptable if he had a variety of teas to choose from, so I went with it. I always enjoy the different terms and spellings of America versus the areas that are more influenced in language by the British Empire. Could be a fun teaser! Boot vs. trunk, colour vs. color, truck vs. lorry, etc. I may work up and submit one when I reach my goliath 250 pt. requirement. Thanks, as always, for submitting! |

| Good teaser. I found them a bit easy but still fun. Would love to see another just like it, with maybe a few more difficult ones this time.
Your use of teas by the way was perfectly valid. It's the only way to distinguish in that sentence that he had several different varieties of tea as opposed to just lots of tea of one type.
I guess the Aussies must do something similar to us here in Canada. We follow the British spelling for some words but the American for others, so we sit somewhere in the middle. We use tire not tyre but in other words like colour and theatre for example, we go with the British. Interesting how the Aussies went with the British spelling of tyre for one meaning but the American spelling of tire for another. Smart way of making them easily distinguishable without having to even see it in context. |

| I have the same routine when getting to work every morning. I open my Google home page to try to solve the Braingle teaser of the day. Some days I do, some days I do not. Some teasers I like, some I do not. If I like the teaser, I comment on it to let the author know I enjoyed their effort. If I do not, I keep my mouth shut. Why? Because, like others, I do not submit teasers!!! Very Nicely done Tam. Going into my favorites!! |

| Yay, I got them all. Tire is an american word for when you are a little fluffy around the middle. Hence. a spare tire. Like on a car. Which, is it really an american word. Doesn't the british have tIres on their cars? Either way, I've never seen it spelled with a Y before. I think it was an awesome teaser. Send more like it. |

| I enjoyed this one. I have a lot of teas myself, so I wasn't at all concerned about the Mad Hatter's situation.
I had no problem with the tire either -- thank you, Canadian Tire! (For those who don't know what I mean... uh... what the heck, just go check out canadiantire.ca. It's a good store. Probably doesn't deliver out of country though!)
I found it interesting that the first blanks in #4 and #5 stumped me, and I had to start with the second blank. Just a pointless thought brought on by observing myself solve this one... |
