Seal Eggs
Language brain teasers are those that involve the English language. You need to think about and manipulate words and letters.
Translate each word group into a phonetic sound, and then string them all together to form the name of a body of water.
For example:
polar or grizzly, finger jewelry, not curved
Translation... Bear, Ring, Straight
Answer... Bering Strait
1. Vehicle, curved bone, to exist, not yang, to look at
2. Circle segment, bloodsucking arachnid, to be in debt, tibia
3. Cat sound, dreidel letter, 18-hole sport
4. Unaffiliated film, Japanese currency, interjection, to eschew
5. Helper, flightless South American bird, clock sound, programming language
HintSome of these are stretches, but they'll be obvious if you focus on the sounds.

| Hi:
Little Brain tried hard to find the answer, but no way. The Brain diminished to a tiny bit of brain cells that were not functioning. But when I read the answer, I found out how smartly they were used. good luck, quack - quack |

| Brilliant teaser! Missed just a couple of clues, but was able to interpolate (wow, there's a fifty cent word) to get all of the answers! If this is an original, be proud of your work. Very fun. (2) |

| Yay! Yay! Yay, Yay, Yaaaaaaay!!!!!
I got them all-ll, I got them all-ll, al-lul, al-lul, I got them al-lulll!!! Weeeeeeee!
OK, but seriously, folks, I really did, but, I had one little bitty thingy: A tic is actually not an arachnid, it's an Acari, a relative of Arachnid. That almost threw me off, coz I knew it wasn't a spider, but fortunately I finally got it.
GREAT teaser, hard, fun, veery diff. and creative, just WONDERFUL, and THANKS!

| A uniquely challenging teaser, definitely a "Braingle qualification" for a teaser. Even this old man had to work on a couple. |
MurfQ
Aug 23, 2006
| Great teaser! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I got all but the last one before giving up and looking at the answers.
I have to add, I love the clever title.
Seal eggs = Sea legs
Had me stumped for a bit but after doing the teaser and getting in the groove of it, it hit me and I loved it! |

| This is truly a great Braingle Brain Teaser. Was very hard for me as they didn't teach phonics when I started school. I got a couple right, but after seeing the answers it was a very doable one. Super job. |
Badger
Aug 23, 2006
| I have to add that I also liked the title! It threw me off for a bit, as seals don't lay eggs! But MurfQ did an apt explanation. Thanks Shawneeo for making me look up acari vs. arachnids... Didn't know the difference, but got lucky on the answer, I guess. Had already looked for the book on South American Ornithology... Just kidding... I'm not that nerdy, but learned a few things on this Braingler! Thanks again 3-2-1! |

| I enjoyed this teaser more than most. Was it hard to create? I hope to see more even though it took me about an hour tocomplete. I got confused on dreidel. I thought you meant one of the letters in that word not knowing that dreidels have words or symbols on them. I kept thinking "If you just picked a word with an 'n' in it, it could easily be Persian Gulf". Oh, well. Some of the others were easy and some were hard but all in all it was a hard teaser and very fun.Thank you. Can I have some more, please? |

| I loved this!!! Never before has a teaser challenged me in a way that made me want to actually struggle with it to see how far I could get!! I got three, two of them were from partially getting the clues and guessing the rest...
I found #4 first, and quickly, and only because of that I was encouraged to proceed.
I then got #5, just from having aid + ??? + tick + C.
Next was #3, purr + ??? + gulf was enough for me to get it.
I should've gotten #1 next, because I was close, I just didn't "see" and that threw me off! doh!! car + ??? + be + yin + peer?gaze?
I suppose I should've also gotten #2, but all I had was: arc + ??? + owe + leg?
Of course, seeing the answers made it obvious. Really, really good job on this one. I'd love to see more like this!! |

| I got the first one and that was it. For number 3, I thought it was going to be the Gulf of Meow-ixco! (I have no idea what the names of the letters are on the dreidel...). |

| This was great fun! I'd get a few on each one and then try to see if anything I remembered from geography class (over 20 years ago) sounded similar...
I got 4 out of 5, so the brain's not dead yet.
Thanks for the fun!

| I realize that this was an old comment discussion, but everything I can find suggests acari are a subclass of arachnids. Therefore it is correct to call ticks arachnids. |
