| I usually try to limit the time I spend on word teasers to a minute or less, as if I were taking a timed test. But this one was worth the extra couple to solve. I've found you can save time by assuming that the answer starts at the end of one word and ends at the beginning of another. Fun! |

| Good one. Love these kinds of teasers. Got them all, but worked on #5 the longest. Got "ming", "ghost" (is there a ghost tree?) & then finally came up with "bonzai". Don't care if bonzai is not considered a tree--just thought that a bonzai tree was one that had been bonzai'd, so in that respect, "bonzai" could be a tree. |

| Imurrary-learningchinese, I think you need to 'do better'. As others have said, Bonsai is not a tree. Well here's what the big guns say about Bonsai trees.
"...the term bonsai also refers to the plants dwarfed by this method." Encyclopedia information about bonsai. The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition Copyright © 2003, Columbia University Press.
Bonsai (Japanese: "tray planting") Living dwarf tree or trees; also, the art of training and growing them in containers. Britannica information about bonsai
Britannica Concise Encyclopedia. Copyright © 1994-2006
Your tree name choices obviously made it a challenging and interesting teaser for real players. Well done. |

| Totally Awesome teaser. It takes some common sense and patience to look for/and find ALL of them. Easy enough for a tease, yet difficult to decide upon an answer Keep up the great work. |

| Great teaser...I had trouble with #5 but I got it before I checked the answer....keep them coming...... |
lmurray
Aug 28, 2006
| I HAVE SAID THIS BEFORE (I THINK) I DON'T LIKE THESE, THEY ARE TOO EASY, NO CHALLENGE AT ALL.
BONSAI IS NOT A TREE, IT IS A METHOD OF GROWING/DWARFING THEM.
 |
nu_rob_roy
Aug 28, 2006
| lmurray, you're all mouth, erroneous and rude as usual. Here a challenge, get a life somewhere...else. BONSAI IS both A TREE and a METHOD. Score: Teaser 1 Teasee 0. Fun and educational teaser, cleverly done. |
Badger
Aug 28, 2006
| Hopefully this won't take anything away from tamip's great teaser.
I'll preface this with the comment that "I've been a gentleman up to this point". I figured lmurray would be in "stealth mode" today as "Learning Chinese"... That's just creepy! What I can't figure out (Murray) is why do you persist? Clearly there's a better site out there that best matches your keen intellect (LOL) and sarcastic wit. You clearly "get off" on the attention you receive here (again, that's just creepy). My vote, felllow Brainglers, is that we not give this idiot the time of day. And my hope is that he'll either go away, or that the powers that be will censure him (again), as well as any pseudonyms he likes to hide behind... Sorry for the diatribe, this guy's just weird. |

| Badger...I AGREE COMPLETELY!! Obviously this moron (immury) is feeding of the fact that he upsets so many of the people here...everyone boycott him...that should solve the problem! BTW...he is probably some 12 year old kid sitting at home with an encyclopedia and a dictionary in his lap trying to make people feel stupid...go out and play little one...wait, you probably dont have any friends! |

| Although I hate to agree with lmurray, the fact is that a bonsai tree would never be found in a forest. Any breed of tree can be grown as a Bonsai tree according to my Japanese friend. I still liked the teaser though. The title was just a wee bit misleading, but who cares. If lmurray didn't like it that's good enough for me to make it one of my favorites. |

and with out peeking. wasn't sure of bonsai, but it was right. this is a gerat teaser, and i enjoyed doing it wonderful great interesting teaser |
Qrystal
Aug 30, 2006
| That was a good feel-good teaser, kinda on the easy side in my opinion but I guess after reading the comments it's not the case for everyone. Like mbunap, I realized that all the trees start at the end of one word and end at the beginning of the next, and that really did help. If you did want to do something similar but tougher, you could have the trees hiding backwards....!!!
But for spruce, why not just go ubereasy and say something like:
"I bought myself a bouquet of flowers to spruce up my life."
Kudos to MurfQ for coming up with a sentence for birch!! |
