Multi-Word
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.
I am three words,
Two of them appear the same,
Two are pronounced the same.
One is the third person use of "capable" or "permit".
One means to sleep, but only for a bit.
The last word means a group of deer,
Perhaps now you can tell me, what words are here?
Answer
First word: Does
Second word: Doze
Third word: Does

| I thought that was very good! I don't know if I would have gotten it. I say would have because, since "a group of deer" is a herd, I was stopped there. Maybe for future you could say several deer or two deer or something other than "a group of" which seems like you're referring to the technical word for a group of deer, not just multiple deer.
Also, does 3rd person means allow or capable? But, sweet, I think they are such a great group of words and it's such a great idea that I am just making a little suggestion, still great teaser. Thanks! |
shawneeo
Jan 07, 2006
| Oh gosh, sorry, I can't edit this. I wasn't exactly right. Deer is really the correct plural, although herd is correct, but "does" would be only female deer, so maybe group of females, something like that, not that you really want my opinion, heehee. Take care, sweetie! |

IMurray, I find your comments boring, and repetitive.

| Hey, sweetime, great job. I was all over the map trying to figure this one out. Enjoy using my brain on ones like this, even if I didn't succeed. Was very easy once I had the answer. Constructive critics enjoyed, but one individual definitely is having a "bad hair or maybe it's heir day". Maybe that's what's wrong with him. Needs to take an happy pill. |

| wow everyone - thanks so much for the comments! i'm glad everyone (well mostly everyone) enjoyed it!
i thought "female deer" might be a little too easy, and had to resort to a dictionary for the definition of "does" (past tense of do), so sorry if you're not happy with the definition - i'm blaming the dictionary, personally |

| Sweet, I hate to be one of the detractors, but I'd be lying if I said that I absolutely loved this teaser. I couldn't and would never connect the first and third answers to their respective clues. I know you said you used a dictionary's definition for "do," but my dictionary's definition is "to perform or execute." Makes more sense to me, but of course that would ruin your rhyming scheme. I hope that's somewhat constructive and nobody gets on my case for being a mean ol' doody head... or whatever. |
speediebean
Jan 16, 2006
| Fulanito, I personally think that that was a positive way to "do" constructive criticism and I don't think you're a 'doody-head'! It's those, "That was lame!! WON'T ANYONE TALK TO ME!?" posts that are a waste of space. Yours was caringly done, and I'd be surprised if anyone were offended, and I've a feeling that Sweetime is waaayyy above being offended by well-worded comments like yours. |

| Gosh, amazing how EZ it is to forget a teaser that you worked on solving before.
I like this teaser, and I like sweetime, so even if I'm clumsy with my words, I don't mean to do anything but offer a couple suggestions to possibly improve a very good teaser. Although, honestly, I don't know if I've ever seen a teaser changed after getting many suggestions on how it might be better; that's a bit of a let down if you really try to help and a number of people see some flaws. (I'm not saying this is your problem, sweetime, this applies to many teasers).
Well, I first off didn't realize that all three words were "almost" the same, or connected. I'm not sure how better to suggest that, but that's something that is basic to this teaser. I already commented on the "female deer" thing. Also on the "does" meaning "capable or permit" or whatever it was. The "doze" clue is fine, especially since "nap" is the obvious guess but "doze" is correct too. To sum up:a better definition for "does", the verb; something like:"three words that are 'almost' the same."; and "more than one of Bambi's Ma" or something like that for a more accurate clue for plural female deer. Those are my suggestions. The basic idea for the teaser is already there and its a really good one.
I know I probably sound arrogant, egotistical, and like a real... um, obnoxious person. Sorry 'bout that!
Thanks, sweetime, very much! |

| SINE MY PREVIOUS COMMENTS HAVE BEEN ERASED, I DON'T EXACTLY WHAT I SAID, BUT I DIDN'T LIKE IT THEN, AND AS A RERUN, I LIKED IT EVEN LESS.THIS TIME.
I REMEMBERED THE ANSWERS FROM BEFORE, SO THIS TIME, IT WAS IRKSOME
HAVING TO CONSULT A DICTIONARY TO "MAKE" A WORD FIT THE CLUE, SHOULD TRIGGER A THOUGHT, THAT THE CLUE
SHOULD BE CHANGED.
A NOTE TO ALL:
I HAVE SUBMITTED A TEASER, BUT I GUESS IT WASN'T ACCEPTABLE TO THE "GODS." |

| I thought this was a good teaser, even tho I didnt get the right answer.
IMurray, all I've seen you do is gripe, saying you've seen these teasers before, and that they werent good the first time around. Maybe you've been here too long. Maybe you could find more intellectual challenges off-line, or writing your're own off-line. If 'the gods' erased your earlier message and wont accept a submission then they might be trying to tell you something. You seem to be wasting your intellegence here. Try challenging yourself in some other way. Just my 2 cents', but it seems to reflect what others feel too. |

| Sweetime, the idea for the puzzle was super. However, 'does' is PRESENT tense, not past, although it is 3rd person singular. Please tell me what it has to do with capable (an adjective) or permit. Thanks. |
Qrystal
Jan 08, 2007
| I will admit that I do see the awkwardness that others have pointed out for "do", but as soon as I thought of "doze" instead of "nap" I was delighted to see how "does" and "does" also fit the clues. Fit well enough, that is!! So, I enjoyed the teaser, because there was just enough information to figure it out. Good one! |

| Nap, slumber, sleep.... my dictionary needs to be traded in on a Thesaurus.
I'm not admitting to not paying attention in vocabulary class. That was NOT me snoring during the teacher's lessons.
Good Teaser!! |
wandering_goat
Jan 09, 2007
| I didn't get it because the teaser doesn't quite make sense to me. While does - the 1st does, that is - is a third-person form of a word, I don't see how it follows from capable or permit. It's a pretty big stretch to me. The deer one is a stretch as well, while the sleeping one makes perfect sense.
In the end, if you like doing teasers where you stretch your mind and create somewhat illogical associationsm, then you might like this teaser (hell, I'm not one for cryptography, for example, though that's not the same thing), but for me, I think brain teasers should be solveable using good sense without having to reach for straws.
Just explaining myself, before people complain about me being "negative" for not liking a teaser and commenting on what areas it can improve upon, as seems to have happened above and in many other comment sections. |

| This is an old teaser that has never been corrected. A group of deer is a HERD,no matter whether it is male or female, I can't believe how many praised this teaser, when it was wrong from the getgo. |
crazy10man
Jan 07, 2010
| I agree with you doehead. This teaser was well intentioned and could work, but it needed to be corrected before it was rerun -- twice.
Not a bad teaser. mind you; it just needs a little work. |

| I have to agree with some that the clues were vague. I did not like this one at all and it was not because of not being able to solve. It was because of the clues. Sorry to all who disagree. |
spikethru4
Jan 07, 2013
| I didn't get it; got hung up, like many others on 'can', 'nap' and 'herd'.
I absolutely agree with those who dislike the first clue: the verb 'to do' does NOT mean capable or permit, so it would have been hard to break into the solution from that clue.
I also disagree with those who don't like the last clue. 'Does' refers to more than one female deer, so 'a group of deer' is perfectly valid. The fact that it omits a piece of information that would immediately lead one to the answer is not a problem, since these things are supposed to get you thinking a bit. |
