Language ConfusionTrivia brain teasers have some element of trivia in them, but they are not just pure trivia questions.
One evening two friends, Carmen and Ana, were talking in Spanish via instant messenger. Both women were from Sevilla, Spain but Carmen was currently in Rome, Italy. Both friends traveled a lot and did not often get to spend time together, so they agreed to meet at a certain tourist attraction the following evening. When the appointed time rolled around and Carmen wasn't there, Ana called her on her cell phone. Carmen insisted she was in the right place, and that Ana was the one that was late. Eventually the confusion was sorted out, and it was discovered that both women were technically right. How is this possible?
HintThe answer lies in the cities.
AnswerThe name of the tourist attraction, in Spanish, was "Plaza de España". In Sevilla there is a tourist attraction by this name, it is the location of the 1929 Worlds Fair. Since the women were speaking Spanish, not Italian, the same name would be used to refer to the Roman tourist attraction made famous by Audrey Hepburn's movie "Roman Holiday", the famous "Piazza di Spagna". Since both women traveled a lot, they both assumed that the other was traveling to the "Plaza de España" closest to them.
