Rocks & Minerals
Science brain teasers require understanding of the physical or biological world and the laws that govern it.
As I wave my hand over this mystery rock, it levitates to my hand. But alas, all that is in my hand is a rod and some copper.
What is going on here?!
Answer
The mystery rock was iron, and the rod and copper form an electromagnet.

Fun science though not especially challenging. Thanks.

I first thought it was a magnet (rod, and the rock would be a magnet). But then I realized it wasnt a trick question and the copper actually has to do with something... Then I got stumped 'cause I always thought copper was for making money.

albeit easy, the wording is confusing.once the magnetic force is great enough to lift the object the two would conjoin immediately.as well, levitation conotates an open hand.

The problem here comes when I ask where the battery is. I suppose you might have the copper hooked up to a seperate battery, but holding the bare copper wire in your hand while undergoing enough of an electric current to create sufficient EMF to overcome gravity would be... phenomenal. This in itself would be magic.
