You said the elder brother "had" £3000. This to me says that he had that money BEFORE he got his inheritance.
My answer was £2500 each.
It may be better to change the word "had" to "got" or "received".

| This is a language teaser, not a trick teaser. Possibly it would qualify as a trick teaser for folks for whom English is a second language but we don't have that category. What are these "editors" doing with all their time? and how does this sludge trickle through??  |
