Anagram 6 - 5 - 4
Language brain teasers are those that involve the English language. You need to think about and manipulate words and letters.
Each of the following sentences has three missing words. The first missing word of each sentence is 6 letters long, the second missing word is 5 letters long, and the third missing word is 4 letters long. All the 6 letter words are anagrams of each other, as are all the 5 letter words, and all the 4 letter words. Can you fill in the blanks?
1) Nobody would ______ to the old pirate any more, because his _____ were far too ____.
2) The fans were ______ as the opposition managed to _____ the game from the home ____.
3) When he decided to ______, he did not expect _____ bread with his ____ every meal.
4) On many of the lake's ______ in the Spring, _____ will be out looking for a ____.
Answer
1) Nobody would LISTEN to the old pirate any more, because his TALES were far too TAME.
2) The fans were SILENT as the opposition managed to STEAL the game from the home TEAM.
3) When he decided to ENLIST, he did not expect STALE bread with his MEAT every meal.
4) On many of the lake's INLETS in the Spring, TEALS will be out looking for a MATE.
6 Letters: LISTEN, SILENT, ENLIST, INLETS.
5 Letters: TALES, STEAL, STALE, TEALS.
4 Letters: TAME, TEAM, MEAT, MATE.

| Imurray actually misspelled a word! Pshaw! Hey, the teaser was great. I appreciated the work you probably had to put into it. Thanks. |

| All the comments are marked "This is offensive" again. What's with that? Interesting teaser but I'm too impatient. Either that or just not bright enough. |

| I missed TEAL- and learned from IMurray that it's a duck. Cool.
Thanks for a great morning brain workout!
RHMaustin: Regarding the "offensive" links at left: I too was confused when I first started seeing them and even clicked a bunch to try to figure it out. Apparently, if you find any comment in these comment sections offensive, you click on that link. Perhaps they evaluate the comment and decide whether to delete it when they get enough people complaining. ?? You don't have this option until you earn a certain level of points on this site. |

| In spite of the fact that the instructions were not clear, I managed to get several, just based on context.
Yep, I even got the teal (their pretty shiny blue-green head feathers are TEAL green - get it??? That's where the color teal originated).
Told you I was a word freak. Can't help myself. Sometimes it's a burden. More often it's a blast. Thanks for the opportunity to challenge my brain daily! |

| I don't see any "offensive" marks on the side of the comments -- so maybe you who do are having internal problems with your own setup.
And teal, as I remember from my Army days, was a particular shade of BLUE, not green. I was in the AMA and our colors included TEAL. Nice teaser, BTW. |

| Except for 'inlet' (which word I know well, but failed to construct this time), got all the others correct. This teaser would have taken quite some effort to produce, even if many find it simple. Thanks for the teaser - I love anagrams. |

| I enjoyed this one. As aforesaid, I presume it took probably more time to construct this teaser than it did to solve it. Consequently I find you have done an excellent job. Besides that, it was fun. More please!? |

| Wow.. I struggled with this for awhile, and only managed to TAME the TEAM, STEAL STALE MEAT, and LISTEN to TALES, MATE.
(I wonder if I am just feeling creative, or am feeling the need to prove I'm clever even though I couldn't get 4 of the 12 blanks filled. ) |

| I always do this wrong. I think it is in the same line and not the others, if you know what I mean. First in all lines is 6, 2nd in all lines 5, 3rd in all lines 4
maybe if I type it out I will remember this one. |
