Anagram Riddle 8
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.
I am a set of three words, all with the same six letters.
First I am a kingdom, though not royally so.
Then spell me backwards, and I become a thin plate.
Now rearrange my consonants, leaving my vowels in place ...
I am now a type of paper.
What are the words?
Answer
animal = a kingdom, not royal, but biological
lamina = a thin plate
manila = a type of paper

I really enjoyed this one. Took me a while to come up with the first answer but after I did the rest fell in very earsily. Lamina is a form of laminate, you know, like putting a plastic covering on things like your driver's liscense or ss no. Anyhow, great job, cnmne. Keep them coming.

Yeah, good one! I, too, got the first two words, but I couldn't get to "manila" ... I didn't think to put a consonant IN FRONT OF the first "a".

Highlama, the vowels for both "manila" and "animal" are in the same order so why would it matter which word you "started" with before moving the consonants around? You got it in the end, though, so good job!

I got it!!!!! But, the way you clued it, after getting the first word the rest fell into place, even though I've never heard of lamina; but I've heard laminate so that made sense and then manila wasn't hard. But that was a tricky one! Thanks!

In reference to the previous comments about spelling, Manila has only one 'l' in common english usage. It is named after the city in the Phillipines. While it may be able to be spelled with two l's, (I cannot find anything that specifies it is incorrect) it is less common and I can find very few official references to this spelling.

| It was a good teaser; if only I could have come up with 'animal', the rest would have fallen into place.
Question: How does reporting something I find offensive work? I clicked on 'this is offensive'; THAT disappeared, but the posting is still there!! Can someone explain, please? |
jcann
Feb 27, 2009
Yes, wordmamma, I agree. I have done the same thing. Also just did it on one of these (probably the same one you did). As previous times, nothing changed. Does it have to have a certain number of reports, maybe?I'd like to know.

A little obvious, though I had to assume lamina was a word (same vein as laminate). And I think Manila is far more comonly known as the plant/city/folder material, and not really thought of as a "paper type".

I too had to assume lamina was a word (though I've not heard it before) since the other two clues fit so well. Manila I have usually heard of in reference to an envelope, but knew it as a paper as well. Though fairly easy thanks to the Kingdom clue, I enjoyed this one.
