Look! Grapples!
Trivia brain teasers have some element of trivia in them, but they are not just pure trivia questions.
My friend Brandon and I were sitting on a bench waiting for our friend. We started talking when a sticky situation came up. He told me he had tried this new type of apple called a "Grapple."
"It's a very cool apple that tastes like grapes!" he exclaimed, "I figured since I enjoyed them so much that I could plant the seeds from the grapple. Then, by midsummer, I can have instant grapples fresh from the tree!"
"But Brandon, it's not going to work out," I said.
"I know that you are going to tell me that I just don't have the green thumb," he explained, "but I still have that apple tree in my backyard from last summer, and it's still alive."
"You can try and plant the seeds, but you won't get grapples," I said.
Why?
Answer
Because grapples are not genetically engineered as most people tend to think.
Grapples are simply Fuji apples soaked in Concord grape juice for a few days to a week. If Brandon had planted the seeds, the tree would have produced Fuji apples, leaving him bewildered!

| Good to learn new things.
I think I will try that sometime.
Do you think that would work with regular apples? |

| actually you could but you wouldnt taste the grape flavor.
If you bite into a red delious apple and then into a fuji apple you will see that the fuji has a flavorless fresh taste and can absorb flavors better. In markets avalible, Grapples are very expensive and many people have no idea what it contains. simply you can take a fuji apple and mimicate it!!!!
If you plan to try it~ Remember that the longer soaked, the more flavor absorbed!! |

| I thought this was to do with how apple blossom pollinates.
Most types of apple blossom cannot self pollinate, they have to be pollinated by a different type of apple pollen so the seed is a hybrid of 2 apple types.
Apple trees are normally grown from cuttings so you get the apple type you want. The seeds grow a random hybrid, dependant on the pollen.
Don't know if this applies to the Fuji apples or not. |

| Interesting... learned something new. Had never heard of Grapples or soaking apples.
Might just try it sometime, although I tend not to buy Fujis. I prefer Honeycrisps, Braeburns and Macintoshes.

| Yeah I've seen these before. They smell like the candy grape, not actuall grapes. I took one sniff and walked away. It was pretty easy to tell that they were not genetically engineered. |

| I didn't know there were such things as grapples! I thought it would be impossible to grow because apples grow on trees and grapes grow on vines. |

| Nice teaser
I only got the anwser because my Grandfather spliced fruit trees (cutting the upper part of a fruit tree at a slant and cutting another tree's bottom half at a slant and tying them together)
and my dad told me you can only graft trees not vines (grapes) or bushs (strawberrys) |

| How are we supposed to know that Grapples are just apples that have been soaked?? Is this something that exists in the US and the rest of us are left confused?? |
