 Sane Feb 14, 2005 Five years ago, Anthony was three times as old as his sister. Now he is only twice as old. How old are Anthony and his sister? let a represent Anthony's age, then s represent the sister First Statement: a - 5 = (s - 5) * 3 a = (s - 5) * 3 + 5 Second Statement: a = s * 2 Combination: 2s = (s - 5) * 3 + 5 2s = (s - 5) * 3 + 5 2s = 3s - 10 -s = -10 s = 10 Therefore, Anthony's age is 20 and his sister's is 10.
