| Great teser!!
Its not science its trick. Those elements dont really make up the ingrediants of choclate (i think). It makes you think of what elements could be in chocolate but really it was just the elements symbols that made the word up |

unklemyke
Feb 14, 2006
| Darling Lovepink,
If you check the answer again you will see that we are considering the
1- and 2-letter abbreviations of the element's names as they are arranged in the periodic table. C is Carbon, Ho is Holmium, Co, Cobalt; La, Lanthanum; and Te, Tellurium. Perhapsyou haven't gotten that far in your Science classes yet. |
unklemyke
Feb 15, 2006
| Actually, Smarty, there are 6 elements in CHOCoLate - Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Cobalt, Lanthanum, and Tellurium |
Katelin
Feb 15, 2006

| THE TITLE DOES ACTUALLY HELPS. AND IT IS VERY INTERESTING, BUT THE ONLY ELEMENTS THAT I COULD REMEMBER WERE COBALT AND CARBON. NEVER REALLY GOT INTO THE OTHER ONES, YA KNOW AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CHART. ANYWAYS, VERY GOOD. |

Feb 23, 2006

| HA ha ha! It wouldv'e been fun if I had noticed it was a trick. Maybe you could say "remember, this is a TRICK" after the clue, because most lazy peeps like me, if they think its science will just either click off or go straight to the answer. I wouldn've rather tried to figure it out knowing it was a trick. Oh well, its still very good! |

| Before everyone chimes in on my last comment, consider this, taken directly from the braingle website....
Creativity :: Accepting Criticism
Criticism is a comment or judgment made to find fault in an idea. This can be bad for creativity, especially when it comes from a boss or a spouse. When someone produces a new idea, it is likely that they are already a little insecure about it. Criticism often feels like a personal attack. As a result, most people become defensive when criticized and will stubbornly defend their idea even if the criticism has merit.
Criticism has no place in a brainstorm, but once you have selected an idea to pursue, it is a valuable tool. Accepting criticism and using it to improve your ideas are critical to producing quality solutions. Remember that the criticism is not about you; it is about the idea. Try to divorce yourself from your idea and pretend that it just fell out of the sky. This will help you look at it objectively and recognize if the criticism is valid.
Avoid being defensive. Instead, ask lots of clarifying questions and find out what changes the critic would make. Be sure to refer back to the goals so that you aren't solving problems that you do not need to solve. Once you fully understand what the critic is trying to say, you can decide if they have any validity.
A supportive environment that gives good criticism and encourages wild ideas will help people become more comfortable with creativity. |

| Besamishuevos, your comment "this...is lame," is itself lame. The paragraphs you quoted from the Creativity section of this site are irrelevant in this case, because when you give constructive criticism you must give a REASON for your statement and/or offers SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT.
I suggest you put a little more effort into your comments when you choose to be critical. (And BTW, this is what constructive criticism looks like.) |

Mar 14, 2007
| Besides: again to all those who claim this would have had to be a science teaser...
In a science teaser, I would have expected the elements which compose chocolate (talking about the sweet, not the word itself)
So the category trick is very fine to me - even if you do need to remember some science trivia to solve it.... but hey...
Does that really matter? |

However, to my knowledge, if this was your original thought, then you should take a bow. No-one else has ever seen the answer in the name until you did. Congratulations on a darn god teaser. | Hey hey, I got it! I knew the 'trick' was going to be requiring the periodic table, and so I felt it was a good idea to find one online and figure it out. I was still a bit stuck for a bit, because I knew Chromium's symbol was actually Cr (so, to respond to millertom, yours is not an answer that works) and I wasn't exactly sure what La stood for (Lanthium? Lanthanine? ahhh-- lanthanum)
Anyways, I found this a very pleasant warm up of the brain cells. Not a vigorous workout, but more like a nice deep breath while stretching the arms overhead. Ahhhhh....

| I thought of it as Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Carbon again, Oxygen again, Lanthanum, Tellurium. Its still only 5 elements! |

| I went to High School back in the 1950s - There were only 98 known elements back then. Three of those in the puzzle were not a part of the Periodic Table then. I caught on to the trick, but couldn't solve it! |

| Cute Teaser. I liked it.
Hey Doehead, there was no need to be rude. Just don't say anything at all. |

| I have two issues with this teaser, first as pointed out it is not a trick, it is a science teaser. Unless you are familiar with the periodic table you have no chance of getting it. You may as well habe asked "what is the atomic weight of chocolate". A trick teaser assumes o knowledge outide the teaser itself. My second issu has also been addreses in that there are at least 2-3 ways to combine chemical symbols to have it spell chocolate.
It was a cute idea but poorly executed. |

| Another overused teaser. If you look at all the comments in 2006 and look at how few there are in 2013 you realize that alot of people left because the editors have chosen to put on all old repeats. Very sad lack of energy by the editing staff. |

| Wrong. I tried mixing those together and it blew up in my face. |

| Lol @dsjt....I agree that this should be in the science category though. I don't have very many of the elements memorized except for the more common ones, so there was practically no chance of me getting this. Still cute though! |

| I disagree that this should be in Science category. Yes, you might have to know some science terms to get this, but it is not in itself a scientific answer. A true scientific answer to this question would be Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, and Oxygen - the elements that make up theobromine - the primary chemical that makes chocolate desirable. Trick is defined as brain teasers that 'appear difficult at first, but they have a trick that makes them really easy'. Since you don't really have to know the actual chemistry of chocolate, and the title gives you the chemical symbols, then it is relatively simple, assuming you know the elements.
BTW - there is no requirement that says a trick teaser must assume no outside knowledge. |

| Cute teaser - I figured out what you were looking for right away, but way back in the stone age when I took high-school chemistry, there were only 98 known elements. The only ones I recognized here were Carbon and Cobalt. As some others mentioned, I was thinking may be Hydrogen and Oxygen were in there also, but couldn't come up with the rest. Anyway - makes me want to go back and study chemistry again (sort of). Nice Quiz!! |
