This isn't a trick, it's a science! I would never have figured it out, because I haven't memorized all the elements! As a science it's a good one though!
Great teser!!
Its not science its trick. Those elements dont really make up the ingrediants of choclate (i think). It makes you think of what elements could be in chocolate but really it was just the elements symbols that made the word up

THAT WUZ AWESOME!!! I luvved it! Definitely going in my faves!
nice, was very entertaining
I agree with Sarelro, this is a science teaser.
I agree with Sarelro, this is a science teaser.
It's sort of in between Science and Trick. so i made it trick.
WAA i dont know my perodic table!
I could have figured it out, but I was too lazy to go get my periodic table.
This isn't really a trick teaser. It should probably be in trivia or science.

LOVED IT! ONe of the best, one of my new favorites!
ooo thats awsome! well, i didnt get it... i rather not think about science other than in school lol
Wow that was probably the first trick teaser that I havn't gotten...I loved it! Haha keep it up!
I'd never have figured it out, in the UK we learn different elements. very good puzzling one
I think that was very stupid if your not a science nerd like me, because, to tell the truth who knows that?
And no they don't make chocolate 'cause where are the terms that start with "a","o",and "e".
Darling Lovepink,
If you check the answer again you will see that we are considering the
1- and 2-letter abbreviations of the element's names as they are arranged in the periodic table. C is Carbon, Ho is Holmium, Co, Cobalt; La, Lanthanum; and Te, Tellurium. Perhapsyou haven't gotten that far in your Science classes yet.

Actually, Smarty, there are 6 elements in CHOCoLate - Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Cobalt, Lanthanum, and Tellurium
Awesome...of course the title kind of gave me the answer, but it was a great trick anyways! Make more like these, keep up the great work!
Very cool! I knew I should've paid more attention in Chemistry!
I DID pay attention in Chemistry class, 25 years ago! I even drew up a periodic table, including the weight & electron rings. There were only 2 of your elements I recognized, Cobalt & Carbon.
THE TITLE DOES ACTUALLY HELPS. AND IT IS VERY INTERESTING, BUT THE ONLY ELEMENTS THAT I COULD REMEMBER WERE COBALT AND CARBON. NEVER REALLY GOT INTO THE OTHER ONES, YA KNOW AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CHART. ANYWAYS, VERY GOOD.
the title actually gives it away in my opinion (it's also helpful that we just learned about elements!)
that was creative........i had a feeling after the hint that the letters stood for the chemical elements, but i didn't know which ones.......good teaser though! is that really the elements......cuz if so.....that's pretty awesum!

I got the "trick" part right away. If it had been a "science" problem I would have had to look a couple of them up.
This is a really good one! Definatly one of my favorites!! Good Job
cute and clever! i didn't get all the elements, though....
interesting, i liked it.
That was a really good one! Its not science bcuz they dont really make up chocolate!! It stumped me and im learnin about it again!!! AWESOME good one
is that why they call it 'chocolate'?
cool teaser
cool teaser
hey that was funny! do you have any other teasers? i don't have enough points yet! dang!

Great choice for TOD .. Good job Smarty! .. I think this is a classic Trick teaser.
I love this one!! Yeah, well... I didn't know all my elements either.... but Clever!!
amazing! loved it! woohoo!
Have to admit to biology, but not chemistry so I never did learn this. However was impressed with the information . Sure I knew about oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, etc. but never learned the symbols for anything but H2O. Never too old to learn something new. Thanks
Very educational, smarty!
Ahhhh, CHoCoLaTe!, my favorite vice! It,s also considered an Aprodisiac, now thats some GOOOD
CHOCOLATE. I reas the book about HERSHEYS CHOCOLATE, I don't recall mention of "ELEMENTS".
Alas I didn't get it. A very CHOCOLATE TRICK (SCIENCE). Good job Smarty.

'SWEET'.
that was a good one. i figured it was actually elements from periodic table of elements, but i havent gotten THAT far in school [high school freshy]. LOL. and i agree, this is a trick, not science. these elements are probably not found in chocolate...*drools* lol
HA ha ha! It wouldv'e been fun if I had noticed it was a trick. Maybe you could say "remember, this is a TRICK" after the clue, because most lazy peeps like me, if they think its science will just either click off or go straight to the answer. I wouldn've rather tried to figure it out knowing it was a trick. Oh well, its still very good!
"Sweet" and easy to figure out.
UGH!
Chocolate will never taste the same again! Smarty - you've ruined it for the chocoholics!!!

Parker, the elements are within the WORD not within the yummy treat.
Great teaser & a lot of fun! Thanks!

Seriously??
i dont like this one, it was boring. idk why... it just wasnt as creative as the ones in the past have been. crap, i dont know.......
and besides, i know how to spell chocolot already
This one was lame lame lame....
oh...did i mention.....it was lame...

Smarty, super, sweet teaser! I've not put one in favorites lately but your teaser is in my list.
Now that I've enjoyed some good reading I'll have chocolate - er breakfast. Of course it will be chocolate!

Before everyone chimes in on my last comment, consider this, taken directly from the braingle website....
Creativity :: Accepting Criticism
Criticism is a comment or judgment made to find fault in an idea. This can be bad for creativity, especially when it comes from a boss or a spouse. When someone produces a new idea, it is likely that they are already a little insecure about it. Criticism often feels like a personal attack. As a result, most people become defensive when criticized and will stubbornly defend their idea even if the criticism has merit.
Criticism has no place in a brainstorm, but once you have selected an idea to pursue, it is a valuable tool. Accepting criticism and using it to improve your ideas are critical to producing quality solutions. Remember that the criticism is not about you; it is about the idea. Try to divorce yourself from your idea and pretend that it just fell out of the sky. This will help you look at it objectively and recognize if the criticism is valid.
Avoid being defensive. Instead, ask lots of clarifying questions and find out what changes the critic would make. Be sure to refer back to the goals so that you aren't solving problems that you do not need to solve. Once you fully understand what the critic is trying to say, you can decide if they have any validity.
A supportive environment that gives good criticism and encourages wild ideas will help people become more comfortable with creativity.

Besamishuevos, your comment "this...is lame," is itself lame. The paragraphs you quoted from the Creativity section of this site are irrelevant in this case, because when you give constructive criticism you must give a REASON for your statement and/or offers SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT.
I suggest you put a little more effort into your comments when you choose to be critical. (And BTW, this is what constructive criticism looks like.)

WOW! I thought this teaser was awesome and very clever. Chemistry is NOT my thing, but this was still enjoyable. Kudos to all those who understand this stuff!
Im in seventh grade and i would've got it had i known my periodic table
RIGHT ON, Choptliva!!! U.Rock!
crap i didn't think of holmium...this really sucks...i should know this stuff ;)
hmmmm.....looks like i touched a nerve....i'd say "mission accomplished"

a fun teaser although I prefer those that test my mind than my periodic table
Haha, I liked it. I knew it had something to do with the table of elements, but I don't know much about that. Your teaser was very good, though!

I like it when one has to do some digging within ones brain in order to solve the teasers. Unfortunately, I didn't dig deep enough.
u would have to be a science buff to get that one...apparently i am not one of them. History not science give me history next time and lets see how i do. But wasn't to bad
NICE 1 keep them comming
Don't forget hydrogen (H) and oxygen (O).
that was very good elments are not my gig though!!!
That was a great teaser, especially for us science buffs!
To "kiss my eggs", your critical spirit is not appreciated by all of us who are here to enjoy a bit of levity from a good teaser. Why don't you start your own blog or find some other forum for your "lame" rants.

THIS WOULD HAVE TO BE IMPROVED TO BE LAME!
THIS DOESN'T EVEN DESERVE CRITICSM, THIS WAS NOTHING BUT A SHAM, NOT EVEN A GOOD PLAY ON WORDS.
IF ANY OF YOU PAID FOR A SCIENCE EDUCATION, GET YOUR MONEY BACK.
THIS WAS A WASTE OF TIME!!!

That was cool, whatever category it falls into. I figured out what you meant, but I didn't know all those obscure elements..I started with Carbon and Hydrogen which got me off on the wrong foot!! Anyway, great teaser!!
OMG, R U 4 SERIOUS?!
I liked it, even though I didn't get it right. I went for Methane ( CH4 ) and Oxygen ( O )
that is a good one
I thought this was a very good trick. I'm sorry some people have such narrow minds
Didn't get it at all! It was interesting, though.
I knew what the gist was, but it has been 25 years since I even had to think about the periodic table of elements, so I didn't get the answer. It was a good teaser/trick. If you didn't like it, it was because you didn't get it...everyone that panned this one needs to lighten up. Good Job!
I got all of them right except for Tellurium...I thought it was Technetium or something like that...
Nice one!
The answer could also be Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Lanthanum, and Tellurium
C H O C O La Te (Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Carbon again, Oxygen again, Lanthanum, and Tellurium)

Liali. Fine answer unfortunately didn't read the question. What 5 repeat 5 items make chocolate
awesome job very interesting and well thought out

P.S.- I THOUGHT IT WAS GOOD

Also this is NOT i reapeat NOT a science teaser- just because it uses the periodic table does not make it a science teaser.
i loved that one
again a awsome1!!!! yep i like corse!!!!

TAKE OFF THE CAPS LOCK PPL!
it was a good teaser.
it was a good teaser.
Ahhh! I thought the title was a trick itself until I read the hint. Kinda easy!
i didnt like it that much but good try
This isn't really a trick teaser though.
Ehhhhh, I failed science. Well, no actually I got an A-, but still science is the weak part of my brain.
you really should change the title cause that gave it away almost instantly
(no comment)
That wasn't tricky! Brainglers should keep that periodic table handy!
Hard for me, no clue about elements, cute title though
not a trick for sure if it was in science (as some peopple said) it would have been better but it was a good one
Very challanging! I only got two of the elements, but I was not really that good at science in school! So no fault to you! Thanks!

I am so sorry for that! I am so Is there a way to take two of them off? I am such a dork!
This was a great trick! I couldn't remember the table so I googled it and figured out the answer!! A little easy, but fun!! Keep them coming!
THIS IS TOTALLY A TRIVIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT A TRICK!!
Good Job, but the title totally gave it away!
ANOTHER RERUN. MY SUBMISSION MAY NOT BE VERY GOOD, BUT IT HAS TO BE AS GOOD AS THIS TEASER BEING RUN AND RUN AGAIN.
WHAT'S UP WITH YOU GUYS?
WHAT'S UP WITH YOU GUYS?
All of you calling it lame, and and such: why would you waste your time with leaving negative comments on the teaser? Just give it a bad vote and move on. No need to bash it verbally.
I liked this one! It was a good blend of science and trick. Nice play on words/letters/elements!

umm...it wuz ok...but it was something that ppl just don't memorize in skool....but good try though!!!!
Got the trick part immediately like so man others did before, but I honestly didn't bother looking up the missing elements!
I was satisfied with recognizing Ch and Co...
(Even if we learn C for Charbon in Luxembourg....!)
Nice idea though!
Besides: again to all those who claim this would have had to be a science teaser...
In a science teaser, I would have expected the elements which compose chocolate (talking about the sweet, not the word itself)
So the category trick is very fine to me - even if you do need to remember some science trivia to solve it.... but hey...
Does that really matter?

Rerun ,Rerun,Rerun.Lets's see some new teasers.
Awesome teaser! It is too bad that Lmurray has to keep repeating his **Lame ** Comments...lol Keep the teasers coming! Some of us will enjoy them!
Really clever idea and yummy too
haha HEY iaint a science nerd and i got it...well only cos i take elements @ school im sooooo FLY!!!
I would have placed this in Trivia myself. The title helps, but if you don't know the Periodic Table of Elements, you're screwed.
Clever, but not a teaser, you either know it or you don't
The title gives this one away but it is a neat play on the table of elements.
fairly easy to figure out. good one
I took one look at this, realized the "trick", knew I wouldn't know all the elements without looking them up, so went and got some chocolate! (Yummy... Dove smooth milk chocolate!)
nice!!1
people typically wouldnt look at the title before they try solving the puzzle, cause its hardly required. personally i do think its clever. you sorta have to think differently is all.
the people criticizing it are commenting because theyre mad they didnt get it

YEA Breathesunshine! I agree. I'm sure I once knew a lot about the elements, but alas, no longer. I applaud anyone who is clever enough to submit AND have a teaser accepted. I went straight to the answer -because looking up the answer on the puter, doesn't count. Gotta love the comments, Huh?
At least the consonants.
me, i'd pass on that piece of chocolate
I don't know all the elements, but the title gave it away. Anything with chocolate is a good thing.
Great Teaser! I think it is more of a Trick brain teaser. GREAT JOB!
I happened to have really liked this brain teaser. I see the first time it was shown it received some mixed comments. Long story short, this site is meant for fun, to get AWAY from the stress of school and work, not add to it.
On a lighter note, I was able to guess from the title that it was going to be the elements, but I kind of don't know them, lolz... do i get half credit?

I don't care if its science, a trick, or whatever. The elements of chocolate have been staring everyone in the face ever since the word was a word. However, to my knowledge, if this was your original thought, then you should take a bow. No-one else has ever seen the answer in the name until you did. Congratulations on a darn god teaser. You should be very proud. First Rate!!!
Brilliant.
Hey hey, I got it! I knew the 'trick' was going to be requiring the periodic table, and so I felt it was a good idea to find one online and figure it out. I was still a bit stuck for a bit, because I knew Chromium's symbol was actually Cr (so, to respond to millertom, yours is not an answer that works) and I wasn't exactly sure what La stood for (Lanthium? Lanthanine? ahhh-- lanthanum)
Anyways, I found this a very pleasant warm up of the brain cells. Not a vigorous workout, but more like a nice deep breath while stretching the arms overhead. Ahhhhh....
I think I'm ready to get to work for the day now!

wow, everyone's just rippin each other apart on here...
i got it pretty quick, but since my dad's a PhD chemist...maybe the periodic table rubbed off or sumthin...
wouldn't that taste nasty, tho, if that's what chocolate was really made of? it'd probably be poisonous...

Wow! BUt really a trick its Science but KOOL! I mean CHoCoLaTe. I would have never thought of it that way!
I never knew that! Cool!
oh snaps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Hidden letters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks like this one has been around and around. Good one.
Title gave it away. ANOTHER OLD RERUN!!!!
I thought of it as Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Carbon again, Oxygen again, Lanthanum, Tellurium. Its still only 5 elements!
I went to High School back in the 1950s - There were only 98 known elements back then. Three of those in the puzzle were not a part of the Periodic Table then. I caught on to the trick, but couldn't solve it!
Cute Teaser. I liked it.
Hey Doehead, there was no need to be rude. Just don't say anything at all.
Hey Doehead, there was no need to be rude. Just don't say anything at all.
Nice one I got it on the first try!
I have two issues with this teaser, first as pointed out it is not a trick, it is a science teaser. Unless you are familiar with the periodic table you have no chance of getting it. You may as well habe asked "what is the atomic weight of chocolate". A trick teaser assumes o knowledge outide the teaser itself. My second issu has also been addreses in that there are at least 2-3 ways to combine chemical symbols to have it spell chocolate.
It was a cute idea but poorly executed.
It was a cute idea but poorly executed.
^^^^excuse the tyoos, cannot easily edit on my phone. I think the point is still understandable.
Another overused teaser. If you look at all the comments in 2006 and look at how few there are in 2013 you realize that alot of people left because the editors have chosen to put on all old repeats. Very sad lack of energy by the editing staff.
Wrong. I tried mixing those together and it blew up in my face.
Lol @dsjt....I agree that this should be in the science category though. I don't have very many of the elements memorized except for the more common ones, so there was practically no chance of me getting this. Still cute though!
I disagree that this should be in Science category. Yes, you might have to know some science terms to get this, but it is not in itself a scientific answer. A true scientific answer to this question would be Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, and Oxygen - the elements that make up theobromine - the primary chemical that makes chocolate desirable. Trick is defined as brain teasers that 'appear difficult at first, but they have a trick that makes them really easy'. Since you don't really have to know the actual chemistry of chocolate, and the title gives you the chemical symbols, then it is relatively simple, assuming you know the elements.
BTW - there is no requirement that says a trick teaser must assume no outside knowledge.
BTW - there is no requirement that says a trick teaser must assume no outside knowledge.
Cute teaser - I figured out what you were looking for right away, but way back in the stone age when I took high-school chemistry, there were only 98 known elements. The only ones I recognized here were Carbon and Cobalt. As some others mentioned, I was thinking may be Hydrogen and Oxygen were in there also, but couldn't come up with the rest. Anyway - makes me want to go back and study chemistry again (sort of). Nice Quiz!!
Nice. I like science brain teasers. Probably science not trick though...Holmium (Ho) could be hydrogen and oxygen (HO)
Alternative solution, y'all: C, H, O, C, 0, LA, TE, or Carbon, Hydrogen, Carbon, Oxygen, Tellurium, Lanthanum; 5 chemical symbols spelling out CHOCOLATE.
Oops. That 0 should be O. Point is, you don't have to go to the semi-obscure element Holmium.
I can make it with just 2 different elements:
CaCaO; two calciums and one oxygen
CaCaO; two calciums and one oxygen
I figured out the answer would be using the chemical symbols of elements to spell "chocolate," even though I didn't think of the elements used.
The title gave away the answer--too easy.
It seems to me that the answer could also be carbon (used twice), oxygen (also used twice), and hydrogen (used once), followed, of course, by Lanthium and Tellurium: chocolate.
This is pretty fun, but does it really count as a brain teaser as you just need to memorise or have a copy of the periodic table ?
