| Surely you could also use a very thick leaded pencil, such that the pencil-drawn line simultanouesly touched the sides of two dots from neighbouring rows. |

| Interesting solution. I have heard of this one, but never knew the answer. It never occurred to me to make the spots thicker. |

| You can do it in 1 line. just use a really thick line! |

| a kid in my math class challenged the teacher to this puzzle at the begining of the school year. he said that if she didn't figure it out, she had to give him extra credit points. after a few days, she told him that she had the answer at home, but had forgotten it! i don't know if he ever got the extra credit, but its not like he needed it! |

| I thought you would draw either 3 separate lines and then draw curvy lines (they're not straight) to connect them, or would just draw a huge curvy line.
Not my favorite one, sorry. Seen it too often. |

May 12, 2006
| I was thinking of drawing a really thick line after reading the hint... but that was really good! |

May 22, 2006
| irar1792-are you sure the challenge to your teacher wasn't using 4 lines? It is a more common way to demonstrate "thinking outside the box". |

| sorry, NOT all of the dots were connected. Just the ones with the lines through them |
EnderofGames
Jan 21, 2007
| You should put 3 straight connected lines, because you could just put 3 horizantal/vertical lines.
But great, none the less. |
vikingboy
Jan 23, 2007
| enderofgames...the teaser says yuo can't lift your pencil, so three horizontal lines will not work.
I'm with others that say the three line answer is cheating in that the real puzzle of this type uses 4 lines, this version cheats on the definition of a "point" |
reptile5000
Jun 09, 2007
| you could just make one line, or keep the pencil in the same spot, and have someone else move the paper, lol |
