Brain Teasers
A Butcher
A butcher had a number of legs of lamb to chop up. He chopped each leg into 11 pieces. He chopped at the rate of 45 strokes per minute. How many legs would he chop in 22 minutes?
Hint
Each leg needs to be chopped ten times, not eleven.Answer
99 legs.Explanation: Each leg is chopped 10 times. 22 multiplied by 45 equals 990. 990 divided by 10 equals 99.

i worked it differently: (45 strokes/min X 22 minutes) / 11 pieces for each leg = 99 legs. kinda easy, but good job anyway.
you can do it a few ways. the explanation was for people who wanted to know how to work it out. and thanks
Good math question! You almost caught me on the number of strokes required for each leg (I didn't look at the hint) but I caught myself.
Gebbie, that equation is fine if you replace 11 with 10; otherwise you still come up with 90.

Good teaser! It was easy but it's nice to have some easy ones sometimes.
AwwwSweet - you're right! that's how i got the anwer - 10 chops/11 legs - thanks for calling my attention to my typo! too impulsive, i am, to comment sometimes.
That was cool!!!!!!!!
when i submitted it, i had to submit it 3 times correcting small bits before the editors allowed it on the site.
Not so much a teaser, as a simple math problem. Since I did it in my head it was easier to do 45/10 = 4.5 legs/minute x 22 minutes = 99.
