2 + 5 - 9 = -2
2*5-9=2º (that's 2 to the zeroth power, not 2 degrees)
25-9=2^2^2
xdbtcp and udoboy, your answers add numbers as well as symbols. I got the same answer as ALW007.

I did the following:
(25-9)1/4 power
(25-9)1/4 power
You're still adding numbers, and you can only add symbols.
25-9>=2 i did it in one symbol
squaring is a symbol just as much as taking the square root i would say. Just cause short hand doesn't put a 2 infront of the square root sign
In the classic "four fours" puzzle, square root signs are considered as numerical symbols, same as !, absolute, and a few others. It does allow raising to the nth power, but only if the nth power is an existing number.
you weren't adding 2 math symblos, you just did the same one twice . . .
does that make sense?
oh well, nice teaser
i got the same thing as the first comment

Got the same as ALW007; good teaser to get the juices flowing.
technically, ur not supposed to split the number up, even tho it does work.
How about:
25-9 != 2
!= means not equals
And just add any symbol anywhere else :-)
25-9 != 2
!= means not equals
And just add any symbol anywhere else :-)
25-9=2^3
sorry, meant 25-9=2^4
sorry, meant 25-9=2^4

sqrt(sqrt(16))
sqrt(4)

sqrt(sqrt(25-9))
