Brain Teasers
Murder in the Cities
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
It was terrible. The spinning blades came closer. I was tied down to the ground, with thick ropes, and I could not run. I saw hundreds around me get decapitated, and I had no chance of escape. The blades drew ever closer. A huge roaring filled the air. The blades drew closer, and closer. The last thing I saw were the blades, before I died, and was covered by the decapitated heads of my fellows.
This story is true. The worst part is, it happens all the time, all across the world. What is going on?

Answer
It is a dandelion, about to be cut by a lawn mower or a weedwacker. It is tied down by its own roots.Hide Answer Show Answer

Sorry, but I don't think grass has a head so it could be decapitated; dandelions, cabbages and kings yes, but blades of grass, no. Otherwise a good teaser.
Just to be pedantic; Timothy grass aka Bent grass was my favourite on the farm when I was a kid, and most definitely has a head.
A very imaginative way to express this action. Keep it up! I know you can do better, still!
I was thinking electric shaver, but that cool too.
That's pretty clever! I think dandalions do have heads.
While a dandelion may indeed have a head, NO WAY is it killed by being decapitated - as anyone who has ever tried to rid a lawn of dandies knows all too well. Lop of its little (seed) head and it will be reborn and rejuvenated before you get your mower back in the shed. Cute teaser, though
it was a metaphor! I thought it was rather good.
I thought it was awesome. very creative. though I was thinking literally, and was kind of horrified.
This was very cute!
clever & witty
Sure dandelions have a head, but honestly I don't think they see or think. Come on, I'm joking.
I was thinking of flower farms at flower harvest time.
Great!!!! I thought it was weeds(Dandelions) but then got thrown of by the ropes!
Very interesting. I've never thought of lawn mowing like that before
You're all missing the biggest problem-- the use of the word ROPE. "I was tied down to the ground, with thick ropes..."
Sorry, but I thought this could have been worded a bit more clearly.

I was thinking roots when I said that. metaphor...
that's very good! I'll never mow my lawn again!
save the dandelions!
save the dandelions!
My Goodness! An awesome dramatization of a simple happening! Loved it!
a nice approach... didnt get it though
Potatos can see (they have eyes) but not dandelions.
It's a personification - dandelions can't post teasers to the web! XD I was thinking it was someone in a war being rescued by a helicopter.
cool
i thought about when people slaughter animals, not flowers.
