Clever one!
! .
The "r" in February is not silent, if pronounced properly. The common practice of leaving it silent is a result of laziness.
Very cool!
AISLE also has silent S and silent E. Also, I pronounce February properly with the R.
We need to correct this teaser, but I don't have time to think of other words with just a silent A and R. Anyone?

Aesthetic is a silent "a"... and I can't think of anything with a silent R... but Feb-you-ary is acceptable, according to Merriam-Webster
I agree that you should pronounce both R's in February however there will always be this debate on these types of teasers simply becasue this site broadcasts to a worldwide audience. Personally I think this teaser is clever enough for it to stay as it is. Good job
yeah, I agree. it's fine the way it is and very clever! great job Gizzer!
Very clever Giz.
Now, the whole February ordeal. I pronounce the R. No wait, thats the R at the end of the word . The other R I don't pronounce

Very clever
a silent "r" in February, how strange! I have spoken English for near on 37 years and never realised I was pronouncing it incorrectly.
Pretty clever! (I still solved it. )
NICE QUIP MAD-ADE
coodent have sed it better myself

Well, according to m-w.com, both FebRU and FebU are correct.
How does m-w.com suggest you pronounce Uranus?
quietly!
Clever as ever, Mrix.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr,,,,=^..^=,,,,
good one
Aisle has a silent A, S, E.
February can be pronounced with or without the R.
I do think the choice of words and the colloquial dialect will greatly limit the number of people who can solve this rebus. Maybe Aardvark would have been a better choice than Aisle.

Well done - a brain workout. Everybody has already made the silent r comments. Thanks!
I think it was great! I don't think it needs to be changed.
Good Luck trying to please everyone.

I actually didn't think many of the "silent letters" were actually silent. A silent letter is one which doesn't affect the pronounciation - so if you remove it, the word you end up with should look like it is pronounced like the original word. I agree with people's comments about February and aisle, but the R in dossier isn't exactly silent - it's part of a sound from the French language. If you drop the R, you get a word that doesn't look like it is pronounced how "dossier" sounds. Also the E in lime isn't silent - it's part of the "long I" sound. If you remove the E you get "lim" which is clearly pronounced differently. Also, I didn't know whether it was a specific person (i.e. a name) or a general person that I was supposed to be looking for. All in all I think this teaser missed it's mark
I didn't get it. When I saw the answer, it all made sense. Good teaser.
Clever one I had great fun paying with the words but didn't get the answer, Nice play on words
Some of the words were terrible choices!!!
I didn't get it! When I saw the answer made perfect sense!
Everyone needs to quit complaining - this is supposed to be fun - you don't need to pick it apart!!! Just take it as it is intended - to be fun!!!!

I got the silent letter thing from the beginning, but I couldn't figure out the answer because I kept getting PSRTNER because to me, the silent letter in aisle is S, not A... in fact, when I read the answer, I thought it was a typo... but oh well, it sure was inventive!
Fun, but seriously imperfect.
Good one! Gee.
I didn't get it either. I will now be more aware of silent letters as clues. Learned something. I pronounce Feb. with both R's. I had to really think so I'm really awake now. Tx for the challenge eh? Me
????????
I agree with casssiemark. I like to have fun!
I have to agree that this one isn't universal. I say the two r's in February. I've also long held that silent letters should also be invisible!
A Super Teaser, no matter what the others say. Some are correct about a few of the vowels. Americans, Canadiens, and others do get lazy with the vowels, but it seems we are also too lazy to offer replacements for these particular words. It seems we enjoy telling others about their mistakes, but to offer placement words for the words would be beyond their capabilities. Keep up the great work, though!
clever, but I really don't get it.
This is a rebus???????
I would by proud of myself if I could make a rebus half as good as this one. Quit your complaining and enjoy the teasers as they are meant to be enjoyed. Thanks for all of your hard work for us...
I agree with Auntiesis completely. I think this is an excellent rebus and teaser. I din't even think of the silent letters. As mentioned above somewhere, I learned something today.
nice one.
I had no clue about this one :-( Need to start paying more attention to the names of the teasers ... i was trying to jumble words and last letters of the 5 words came to 'rtney' so i was thinkin courtney !
Genie-Ass

The A is pronounced as in Ah-Choo (Ah-ee-l); the S and E are the silent letters.
Only if you're lazy.
I can't believe M-W says it's okay to drop it.
Appalling!
This should have read:
**Aisle has a silent A.**

**February has one silent R.**
Only if you're lazy.

That was a TOUGHIE But very good
This teaser had potential, but missed the mark...
I am sorry but this is the very first teaser that I have ever put down. I believe in correct pronunciation; and this is just wrong; SORRY: Try again!
i liked this one!

Well I don't care how you pronounce February or how many silent letters there are in Aisle. That was a good teaser.
I just realized, the fact that Aisle has more than on silent letter only serves to make the puzzle more challenging. Nowhere did it say that aisle had only one silent letter.
Awesome teaser!!! I LUVED IT!!!
i liked it even though i didn't get the answer.
AISLE also has silent S and silent E. Also, I pronounce February properly with the R.
so i would have neverhad it!
so i would have neverhad it!
Cool dude!
Wowee, people sure are harsh when they are upset about getting a teaser wrong. Hehee!
Anyways, I got PARTNER, didn't put it together with SILENT to get the answer. Oh well!
Anyways, I got PARTNER, didn't put it together with SILENT to get the answer. Oh well!
According to Wikipedia (which is never wrong ) the 's' is silent is Isle and presumable Aisle. Also a silent letter is one which does not affect the pronunciation phonetically so trailing 'e's are not regarded as silent because they do affect the way we pronounce words like 'fin' and 'fine'. Good concept but poorly researched. Too hard for me I'm afraid.
Just in case anyone didn't know the word "ptarmigan," it's a kind of bird. I know nothing else on then subject
I did not even try as when I looked at it I knew it was not my thing. They are always too complicated for me, and no fun at all. Sorry and glad so many found it a good one.
nice teaser, but I agree about both aisle and February. I cringe when people pronounce it Febuary
Thanx, everyone, I was just about to say that..............
Wonderful teaser and one of the best by one of Braingle's most prolific contributors (Gizzer).
Now .... something strange. I clicked on her name to check some of her other teasers and got ....
"This user no longer exists"
She was an editor - I think - and has made some comments that were posted within the last few months.
Hmmmm .... another Braingler axed ??
Odd. Very odd.
