Brain Teasers
Solar System Series
What value completes this series?
Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, ?
Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, ?
Hint
How many values are there? They are related to names that we use every DAY.It isn't necessary, but it will help if you know one of the Romance languages.
Answer
SaturnThe Roman names for the days of the week were based on the heavenly bodies:
Sunday was the Roman dies Solis or day of the Sun.
Monday was the Roman dies Lunae or day of the Moon.
Tuesday was the Roman dies Martis or day of Mars.
Wednesday was the Roman dies Mercurii or day of Mercury.
Thursday was the Roman dies Jovis or day of Jove (Jupiter).
Friday was the Roman dies Veneris or day of Venus.
Saturday was the Roman dies Saturni or day of Saturn.
In English, it is easy to see the origins of Sunday, Monday and Saturday. In the Romance languages, it is easy to see the origins of the other days. For example, mardi (Tuesday in French) bears a resemblance to Mars; mercredi (Wednesday in French) bears a resemblance to Mercury.

too hard for me
clue was so bold
I always understood that the English names for Thursday & Friday came from the Norse gods Thor & Fridda. Not a good teaser.
Thank-you for your comment.
You are correct, but you didn't disagree with anything I said. This teaser speaks about the Roman names, not the English names.

Another one that is impossible for anyone without specialized knowledge of something like a foreign language. This site is pathetic for that. No wonder most users haven't logged in for 10+ years.
