Is there not a second combo:
8-3-1-9-4-0-7-2-5-6? |
swischoc4
Nov 26, 2006
| That was a good one.
Unstumped the "second combo" you mentioned is not possible because the product of the 4th and 6th digit would not equal the product of the 2nd and 10th digit. Had it been the sum of the 4th and 6th digit being equal to the sum of the 2nd and the 10th digit then your combination would hold true. |

Nov 29, 2006
| Unstumped, I think your combination is the right one because the 2nd and 10th numbers equal 9 and with the 4th number being 9 the only possible answer for the 6th would be 0 so that the 4th and 6th would equal 9 also. The code they have has the 4th & 6th equaling 11 and the 10th and 2nd equaling 9. |

Unstumped and BGCTM, the key to your question is that the PRODUCT is refered to and not the SUM... |

| Welldone - just difficult enough to be fun. One suggestion: in the last clue remove one "is" and also insert the word "number" before 5, so that it reads "the number 5 is next to...". Otherwise it is a little confusing - one might think you are referring to the 5th digit in the code rather than the number 5. |

| Great teaser! I got it without pulling out my hair. Very satisfying. Chica34, refer to the comments of "unstumped" and "swischoc4" the clue about the 4th and 6th digit won't hold because 9 times 0 is 0. |

| yes i am a little stumped and if someone could help me out that would be great....b/c the answer states 8319427056....which doesnt follow the rule:*The product of the 4th and 6th digits is equal to that of the 10th and 2nd digits...and i got 8319407256....so if someone could explain this to me...ide apprechiate it. |

But at 1st i got a combo of 8-3-1-9-4-0-7-2-5-6...idk maybe i'm wrong... |

Feb 05, 2007
| THE ANSWER IS INCORRECT. IT SHOULD BE 8319407256. THE ANSWER OF 8319427056 IS INCORRECT BECAUSE THE PRODUCT OF THE 4TH AND 6TH DIGITS IS NOT EQUAL TO THE 2ND AND 10TH DIGITS. DOESN'T ANYONE CHECK THESE FOR ACCURACY?? |
peanut
Feb 05, 2007
| Thanks for all the great comments!
To those who suggested an alternative solution and sylk1971 who refers to the apparent lack of accuracy, I can ASSURE you the editors check the solutions thoroughly before approving a teaser. The solution as given is the ONLY CORRECT solution...
Clue 7 states that the PRODUCT of the 4th & 6th digits (i.e. 9 x 2) is equal to THAT (meaning the product, NOT the SUM) of the 2nd and 10th digits (i.e. 6 x 3).
Simple hey?!?! |

Feb 06, 2007
| I loved this!! Of course, if we're wondering about the slowness of the bank robber, we should wonder even more about why someone left a bunch of instructions on how to crack the code to the safe.... but ANyways!
Anyways, my way of solving it, I gave the digits of the code letter names.. so I was solving for A, B, C, ..... up to I. Yes, you saw that right, I. I miscounted. I realized that there was a Jth place after I got stumped by the last clue, because it didn't help me decide between the last two digits... but then I realized my error, fixed it, and got the right answer. Whew. I loved that too much to screw it up that badly! |

Feb 04, 2013
| Fun puzzle, but the answer given here is wrong (8 3 1 9 4 2 7 0 5 6)
In the clues it says that the sum of the numbers on position 2 and 10 are equal to the numbers on position 4 and 6.
Here that is: 3 + 6 = 9 and 9 + 2 = 11
Therefore the answer should be:
8 3 1 9 4 0 7 2 5 6 |
GWeb64
Feb 04, 2013
| NO, it says product 9 x 2 = 18 and 6 x 3 = 18
not sum which would be adding the two numbers together.
831907256 can not be correct. the product of 9 & 0 would be 0 . |

Feb 04, 2013
| This was a great teaser - I liked it very much!! My old brain needs this kind of workout occasionally. Those who confused "product" with "sum" should not be so quick to assume that they are right and the given answer is wrong! - If I come up with a different answer on a puzzle, I will go back and read carefully to see where I goofed, and if I can't figure it out, I will ask for help and someone will set me straight. This is a site for stimulating our brains and learning something - not for arguing that "I am right and you are wrong!!"
Thanks again for a great teaser!! |

| Amazing! Just like the first person said- Not too easy, not too hard! Just fun! And I completely agree with thecatladycac, not just for this teaser but for many of the teasers on this site. Before I comment I always assume I'm wrong. It's saved me some embarrassment and also helps me get more of these correct! |
