An Apple a Day
Math brain teasers require computations to solve.
A shop sells apples at $1 each. Each of these apples are wrapped in a special wrapper. You can trade 3 of these wrappers for 1 apple.
If you have $15, how many apples can you get altogether?
HintDon't forget your leftovers.

Answer
22 apples.
Firstly, you can get 15 apples.
Trade the wrappers to get 5 more apples.
Trade again and you'll have 1 more apple and 2 leftover wrappers.
Trade the remaining wrappers to get 1 more apple.
15 + 5 + 1 + 1 = 22
You will get 22 apples altogether.

| I can only get 15 apples for $15. If I can then return for more apples I would ask others for their wrappers and end up with more than 22 appples. |

| if three wrappers=an apple, then how do you get an apple for two wrappers? |

| it's because for $15 you get; 15 apples@ $1 per apple. from those 15 apples you get 5 more apples @ 1 apple per 3wrappers. from those 5 apples, you have 5 more wrappers, so you get 1 more free apple @ 1 apple per 3wrappers. so you get one more wrapper you add it with the remaining 2 wrappers she had left over from those 5 wrappers she got from the fre apples, so she gets 1 more free apple.... i think i made the explanation more complicated but that's how it is |

| I'm just new in this thing and I don't know how to add points. I have to be a member for 5 days and have over 220. Can you guys help me answer this brainteser...
Mrs Tubbs bought some square paving tiles.
She bought less than 100 tiles all the same size. She used all of them to pave two square areas of her garden.
Then she changed her mind.
She rearranged them all to make two different squares.
How many tiles did Mrs Tubbs buy?
Thank you. Please send your answers to this brainteaser. |
