Brain Teasers
Fast Clock, Slow Clock
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
At a certain time of day, every day, my clock appears to be an hour fast. At another time of day, it appears to be an hour slow. It is neither fast nor slow. What's wrong with it?
Answer
The LCD light on the lower left of the hour digit is broken, so that the hour number 6 appears to be a 5, and 8 appears to be a 9. During hours 2, 10, and 12, it will be clear that the clock is broken.Hide Answer Show Answer

This one was just too hard for me. It made my brain hurt.
seens like this ought to be in the trick category, as there is no good way to guess this.
Perhaps if it was specified that it was a digital clock.

Actually, the more I think about it, the less I agree with this teaser.
The statement "at a certain time..." is incorrect.
It should read " for one hour each day...", as the clock appears fast, or slow, for an entire hour, not just a certain time.

oddrey that was not nice eney way that waz hard for some odd rezone
actually, viking, i really didn't know where to place this when i first submitted it so i asked the Editors to help me place it in the right category. and they chose Situation.
Nicely done. I will agree with vikingboy on the wording though. I was trying to find a precise moment of the day where this would be applicable. Not an entire hour. Great concept though.
hey nice teaser. i thought the clock was broken but hey - i was close!
I couldn't tell since I thought it was analog, not digital. You gotta kinda mentally squint to figure that one out.
Don't forget to send me a message saying what subject you want me to do on a quiz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NICE ONE THERE!!!
It's stopped!
NIce quiz, even if I didn[t get it! I thought it had to do with seeing the clock in a mirror!
well looking at the clock in a mirror would result in the clock being slow at all times. a broken watch would show the correct time once or twice a day and the rest of the time show a wrong time, but it doesnt seem to be GOING too fast or slow because its not going anywhere
woops looking at the clock in a mirror would show a time thats too late or too early and the correct time only twice a day, depending on weather you read the numbers or tell the time by the position of the hands
Not bad. My teacher asked something like this a long time ago. It was not with clocks though.
I got it! Although, I thought it was that the light was always ON instead of broken, so that a 5 would be a 6 and a 9 would be an 8.
