Spazy Croonerisms 9
A spoonerism is a pair of words that can have their initial sounds switched to form new words. The pairs need only sound the same, not necessarily be spelled the same (power saw & sour paw, horse cart & coarse heart). There may sometimes be one or two connecting words (kick the stone & stick the cone, king of the rats & ring of the cats). Given the following definitions, what are the spoonerisms?
1) ales in Madrid & to refuse javelins
2) sluggish crawl & insane jump
3) very warm poodle & selfish hoarder of specks
4) large cetacean & bundle of toupees

I'm with you Grams, I love spoonerisms, but can never figure them out. These were all great.
Very interesting but not my type of trivia.
I got 3 1/2 out of 4! Got big and wig but didn't know cetacean and would never have thought of bale for bundle without the hay or straw.
These were great! More!
(And yes, Grandma B, I got yours, too!)

Tough one ! Very clever, but some of the words just did not leap to mind.
Excellent! The last one took me a little longer, but I loved it. Just the right challenge. BTW, doehead, this isn't trivia it a "teaser".
Thanks!
Thanks!
You got me there hoon. I couldn't figure those things out to save my life. Thanks for the post anyway. I've learned something new today.

Oh, and GrandmaB - got your's, too. Thanks!
Having been a teacher, I can't help wanting to help folks get the hang of how to do this kind of teaser...
So, on the example I offered earlier, here's how to think it out:
Pick an easy one of the clues that you might know the definition of:
inhabitant of Turkey is a "Turk"
or, Job is "work"
Then hearing the sound relationship of "Turk" and "work" you know you're on the right track.
Taking the first letter of each ("T" and "w"),
help you find the other words which are also definitions and rhyme with each other:
comparative of bad is "worse"
concise is "terse"
Solution:
terse work :: worse Turk
Hope this helps

I only got the 1st one but thanks for the tips, GrandmaB, maybe I'll get the next one.
received a double, baby glop, got two, tot goo!
I got 31/2. Although i read three and immediately said hot dog , when i read the second half i was lost. I guess a brain freeze happened. Anyway it was nice. THX.
Couldn't put lazy and crazy to leap and creep, but the rest were all easy enough... and fun as usual!
That was great! I had a lot of fun with that one! Definitely my favorite...
You think that's bad? I didn't get the whale one and I teach science!
Thanks Gramma B You could be
Grandmaster B.
I get the first half of these but
then give up. This helps make more sense of them.
Good Teaser

Good Teaser
Having read Moby Dick not that long ago, the cetacean reference was easy (seems like the word is on every page of the book). Fun teaser. Would love to see more like these!
Wow, those can get quite confusing!!! Great job though, I liked it!
i really liked it... good job
Hmm... "Banish" doesn't really mean "to refuse", it means "to expel, drive away, send away, compel to depart, exile". Other than that, a fine puzzle.
Didn't like it the first time I saw it, and still don't.
Love the spoonerisms. Keep 'em coming
One thing about having a swiss-cheese brain, I'd had no idea I'd already seen these until I read the comments! What I was going to say, I'll still say: I LOVED this teaser! It had the perfect level of difficulty--gettable, but I had to think some. I'm very happy it was re-posted!
Ditto Wordmama. I couldn't have said it better myself.
Not a favorite, but did get a couple.
I was not too sure what she was going for with the "beer" one. I thought maybe they called beer by another word. Oh well.

loved them!
nicely done
I usually get these, but not this morning - maybe too early. Thanks, though!
Very entertaining teaser; it took a short while but I got them all.
Wonderful, creative, fun, clever... I could go on. Terrific Teaser!
