Not a Bad Cough
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.
A woman took her pet bird, which had a bad cough, to see the vet. The vet listened to the bird's cough and agreed that it sounded bad but told the woman that the bird was not sick. Why not?
Answer
The woman bought this parrot from a pet shop. When she got it home, it developed a bad cough. When the vet said there was nothing wrong, she investigated its history and found that the parrot had previously been the pet in a home for the elderly. There, it had learned to copy the heavy coughs of some of the patients.

| i recently went to my cousins, and they had a parrot. it was always making really loud coughing sounds, so this teaser confused me. |

| Another plausible answer to this one would be that birds cannot cough. Birds use positive pressure breathing (much like "swallowing" air) so they cannot cough like humans (who use negative pressure breathing, where our diaphragm moves down and creates a vacuum in our chests.) Kinda neat, huh? |
