i recently went to my cousins, and they had a parrot. it was always making really loud coughing sounds, so this teaser confused me.

Another plausible answer to this one would be that birds cannot cough. Birds use positive pressure breathing (much like "swallowing" air) so they cannot cough like humans (who use negative pressure breathing, where our diaphragm moves down and creates a vacuum in our chests.) Kinda neat, huh?
