Sorry bud, but I figured this formula years ago. But I'm not bragging. This was a great teaser.

thats the basis behind squared numbers... for example, take any number x, and the next higher integer squared will be (x+1)^2 or x^2 +2x +1. so whatever number X is, just add 2x +1, and you have the next highest square. thats how you can easily figure out, say, 21^2 = 400+40+1 = 441
