Can you figure out what A.A. Milne was referring to in this verse from his "When We Were Very Young" book?

She wore her yellow sun-bonnet,
She wore her greenest gown;
She turned to the south wind
And curtsied up and down.
She turned to the sunlight
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbour:
"Winter is dead."

The one thing I forgot to say when I submitted this riddle was it's name. The poem is called " Daffodowndilly" and I do hope you read some more of A.A. Milne's verse. My favourite is "Disobedience", it's all about a three year old called James James Morrison Morrison.

Thanks for your comment, Grilledcheese. I can not take the credit for writing this verse. As I said, this is exactly as A.A. Milne wrote. I submitted it as a Teaser so that others might read his verse and enjoy it too as I have done.

I loved this one. It came to me right away that it was a flower, but I wasn't quite sure which of the spring flowers it was. I really enjoyed this little trip to AA Milne-ville.

Sunflowers don't bloom in the spring, at least not where I live. I really enjoyed this poem, especially since the daffodil is one of my favorite flowers of Spring. I look forward to seeing them come up every year.

Thank you Hadleigh. What a lovely way to start the week. Poety is foof for the soul. I have a whole collection but not AA Milne.
Something to adquire. I thought of Spring but knew that was too easy

Love Daffodowndilly

Is that why my Dad always called
crocodiles, Crocodowndillys? For Real, Seriously . Thanx Rose

Sorry, must post again. My fingers are making typos. I meant FOOD for the soul no foof and
there is another error there? Sorry

I could probably find this in one
of my poetry collection books.

Thanks Again.

Oh, doglady, yes I remember you and guess what I love this - even read it to my grandson right off the monitor. He gave me a big grin, so you scored another one. Grayma V

Very nice! I guessed "crocus" since they are an early spring flower, but so is the daffodil and of course fits the description better.

Thank you for the uplifting teaser!

Could also be a sunflower.

I love A.A. Milne and have enjoyed his books and poems for many years. Had I not studied this poem in my "Kiddie Lit" class in university I am not sure I would have gotten beyond knowing it was a flower.

I know nothing about flowers as I am not botanically inclined and have no interest in becoming so. I have even gone as far as to remove all the dirt from the flower bed in my yard and replace it with lovely white stones. Nothing grows there!
