A Poem By A.A. Milne
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.
Can you figure out what A.A. Milne was referring to in this verse from his "When We Were Very Young" book?
She wore her yellow sun-bonnet,
She wore her greenest gown;
She turned to the south wind
And curtsied up and down.
She turned to the sunlight
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbour:
"Winter is dead."
Answer
A daffodil
The poem is exactly how A.A. Milne wrote it for his son Christopher Robin, and his collections of verse and stories of Winnie-the Pooh have been favourites of children all over the world.
"When We Were Very Young" was first published on November 6th, 1924.

| The one thing I forgot to say when I submitted this riddle was it's name. The poem is called " Daffodowndilly" and I do hope you read some more of A.A. Milne's verse. My favourite is "Disobedience", it's all about a three year old called James James Morrison Morrison. |

| Thanks for your comment, Grilledcheese. I can not take the credit for writing this verse. As I said, this is exactly as A.A. Milne wrote. I submitted it as a Teaser so that others might read his verse and enjoy it too as I have done. |

| I loved this one. It came to me right away that it was a flower, but I wasn't quite sure which of the spring flowers it was. I really enjoyed this little trip to AA Milne-ville. |

| Sunflowers don't bloom in the spring, at least not where I live. I really enjoyed this poem, especially since the daffodil is one of my favorite flowers of Spring. I look forward to seeing them come up every year. |

| Very nice! I guessed "crocus" since they are an early spring flower, but so is the daffodil and of course fits the description better.
Thank you for the uplifting teaser! |
