Brain Teasers
Hexagon From Nowhere
Trick
Trick brain teasers appear difficult at first, but they have a trick that makes them really easy.Trick
Placed on an empty table in front of you are four large plastic letters. These letters are the lowercase "a", the lowercase "n", the lowercase "t", and the lowercase "h".
Your challenge: Arrange the four letters to make a hexagon.
The hexagon you must make has no curved side; do not use a curved side as a straight one. Also, the letters must be flat on the table, and no letters can be flipped over or stacked on top of each other.
Assume the letters are small enough to allow room for rotation.

Answer
Place the a in the middle of the table, and put the "h" to the right of it. Set the "t" to the left of the "a". Rotate the n so that it looks like a "u", and place it to the left of the "t" to get Utah, a U.S. state that has six sides, or a hexagon.Hide Answer Show Answer

Not that I know what Utah looks like, but is it actually a hexagon or is it just a six-sided shape?
The two are not the same.
The two are not the same.
actually, a hexagon is defined as a shape with 6 sides...they don't have to be in any definite forms...
i knew it had to do with spelling something out, i just didn't get "Utah"

I agree with zeepuzzlemaster--only if you're an American will you get this.

i knew it was something to do with spelling i just didnt know what to spell
In geometry the interior angles of all hexagons must add up to 720 degrees. Utah does not. Hence, it is not a hexagon.
I see five interior right angles, and one interior angle of 270°. 5 x 90 + 270 = 720.
