I've never heard the phrase and I can't see where the 'up' comes from. What really astonishes me is the high popularity rating of this teaser. Maybe it's me.
I have never heard this phrase either, but do understand that 'a disappoint fellow' is above 'backing'. I actually had backing w/ease, but again top row - no clue.
What? I'm totally confused.
I think the idea was that the "gni" ("backing") was supporting and therefore holding or lifting "up" the "disappointed fellow". But I agree, "up" is not represented in this rebus.
