Flightless FlierScience brain teasers require understanding of the physical or biological world and the laws that govern it.
There was a research center in Des Moines, IA, with a special team of scientists. They were trying to design a perfect flying aircraft that was lightweight, strong, and fast. One of the researchers went to the head chief and proclaimed,"We have done it! We have created an aircraft with zero drag! Isn't this great?"
The chief stared at him and said plainly,"You think you created an aircraft with zero drag. Well, you obviously slept during physics class. Now go back and try again."
What's the matter?
AnswerIt is impossible to build an aircraft with zero drag. On Earth there is air, air is made of matter, any matter rubbing against other matter makes friction, and friction leads to drag. Also there are four forces that must be balanced in order for an aircraft to fly. The forces are: thrust, lift, gravity, and drag. If any one of these are missing, it is impossible to fly.
