Winter Olympics
It's 1962, and you are traveling to Innsbruck, Austria to see the Winter Olympics. When you appear at the new stadium, nobody is there. You ask a passerby, "Why isn't anyone here for the Winter Olympics?"
The man answers your question, you both laugh at your silly mistake, and you go back home.
What did the passerby tell you?

Easy for an oldster. I was too young to remember Austria, but I have vivid recollections of the 1968 summer Olympics in Mexico, and back then they alternated every 4 years. So the winter games had to be 1964.
Karen, I'm probably as old as you are (maybe more!) but I think it was not exactly as you said. Both summer and winter games were held every four years, but it was in the same year - the leap year (divisible by 4). So there were both summer and winter games in 60 and 64, and no games at all in 62.
Some athletes (Al Oerter comes to mind) won medals at multiple Olympics. No way they would have waited eight years for that chance!
It wasn't until the 90s (I think 1994, but I'm not certain) that the winter games were staggered by two years to give us some Olympics every two years, rather than a double dose every four years. So now we have the summer games on the leap years, the winter games in between.
In other words, they were not alternated in the 60s... they just all landed on the leap years.
In any event, nobody would have found any winter games in 1962.

I thought it was because the traveler is from the northern hemisphere so while it's winter there it's summer in Australia
That's more trivia than trick.
